It really isn't all that bad. I much prefer Windows 8 over Windows 7.

So far it's been faster then W7 and just as useable.
The start menu is just more like a start window now.

I have not encountered a single thing that suggests moving to W8 was a bad choice. Everything works fine.

I disagree. It works fine, just slightly different than you're used to.

My major fault is the start menu/window, the Window itself is fine, however I'm not particularly happy with the limited customisation available in terms of its look and feel.

What annoys me is its position, if you are inside another application, you have to go all the way to the top right, then down to the center of the screen, sure you can press the windows key on the keyboard but some people rather the ability to navigate through their entire OS with a mouse.

Also is Aero still available or is it removed?

This. I don't see a reason to upgrade, my desktop works just fine as it is lol.

This mindset is to be expected, I'm a debian Linux user.

It's all part of the big illusion that we perpetuate on ourselves and in turn is perpetuated upon us. When we believe, we engage the illusion. When we stop believing we shatter the illusion and shatter ourselves in the process. Because we are, part of it.

Aero is gone. Replaced by the Modern style which are all solid colours and no more rounded edges as everything must conform to the "tile" look.

I'm considering the move to W8 with the use of Stardock Start8. I'm interested in the faster startup/shutdown, client side Hyper-V, and storage spaces. Metro can royally screw off.
