WHATS MORE IMPORTANT WHEN YOU ARE HOSTING? DOWNLOAD OR UPLOAD BANDWIDTH? I WILL TRY AND GET PERMISSION TO SET UP A SERVER AT SCHOOL WHICH HAS A T1 CONNECTION. WITH BETWEEN 400 AND 500 kbs up load, how many players would be max for the server?

Upload is most important.
With 400-500 you can host about 12 or just over with Renegade, not totally sure though.
And why the caps?

my problem is you leaveing the caps on (its just VERY WEIRD) and i evny that your your school would for some reson let you set up a server there useing there T1, but thats just me.

I know that I can set one up if I bring 1 of my home computers in and let it run while I'm there but, when I leave, that is the question....

You should come to my high school sometimes. There are a lot of pc's and there are no restrictions. We can use our own HD's with our own Operating system. We can download at 1 Megabyte p/s when the network is crowded, but I have heard about speeds later in the day of 6 MB/s.
To bad there are always a lot of problems with the computers.
Size doesn't matter.

I don't get this... people say 12+ players with 400KB/s upload, DUDE, i can host 10 players with 30kb/s... no lag...

Umm, I think you're getting mixed up.
I mean 400Kbp/s upload for 10 people or over, not 400KBp/s for each client on the server.

OMFG, your school's upload Sucks, i have DSL and i have better upload than that.
i get 750kbps up with my DSL and 4.2 MBps Down.
BTW, which speed do you think you should be looking at? The download? ummm, NO. its all about the Upload.
