I think you're being badass here. Before you know it you have a tattoo of which you think you know what it means but in reality it means something like "son of a whore" or whatever. You wouldn't be the first one, particularly not on the internet.

Sometimes theres a chinese phrase book at the tattoo place, with examples of common phrases.

ewd did you even read.....

im trying to get a translation so i dont end up with something wrong.....

if you mean that people here will just say they speak chinese and give me a random character, then yeah i kinda thought of that, obviously i wouldnt take a screenshot and take it to my artist and say here you go, put that on me.

but from most people, i would certainly take any help or contact details i could.

ive been working on a design for awhile, stems from my trip to korea actually, but i dont know anyone with chinese fluency, hence my asking for help. Its not huge and wont fit a script, which is why im going for a short phrase. I have a few in mind, but want them double/triple checked to get the right meaning out of it.

i dont want a phrase book, i want someone to translate :S

Why are you having it written in Chineese? If the phrase is so important to you, what does it matter the language it's written in?

This.

Particularly because you don't have a fucking clue what it says.

Oh and btw, you are aware that there isn't such thing as Chinese? They have several languages there. Not to mention that Korean is again something else than the Chinese languages. You will have to be more specific.

It's all part of the big illusion that we perpetuate on ourselves and in turn is perpetuated upon us. When we believe, we engage the illusion. When we stop believing we shatter the illusion and shatter ourselves in the process. Because we are, part of it.

nopol, hey mate! Havent seen ya in ages.
awesome man, im gonna shoot you a pm now....these forums the best for it?

thanks star! Thats great, id done alot of search finding translations and books and stuff, but i hadnt thought to search for foums, brilliant tip! il checm them out.

ewd someone you know get a bad tattoo, you seem to have an extremly jaded and poor opinion of them lol.

yeah by chinese ofc i mean Mandarin, its the most common and i think most westerners safely assume when someone says chinese (when refering to language) they would mean Mandarin, its generally a given..

Korean is a different language.....im not american, in other parts of the world we tend to know these things and not think its a big deal that we do..

aside from the the fact i spent a month there studying language and culture, i did by commen sense know its a diff language Smile While it does have some roots from chinese, as well as a similar alphabet structure it is different. Although many koreans will know some chinese as it is quite widely used.

i have a couple of korean friends helping me, but ofc i would want their translation double checked.

as to why chinese, I cant say for sure tbh. The design incorporates some calligraphy and design work we did in korea, i have no artistic talent, but from my decent description, one of my friends here was able to sketch and design it for me which i really like.
but ive always wanted the writing to be in chinese.

not that it matters, it will be down the side of my ribcage, wrapping around slightly onto my back, not very big.

Tattoos are for common people.

common?

dunno what hell-hole you come from, but is it where all the other renecheaters hideout with nothing better to do since theyre banned everywhere Smile

certainly not common here, they do obviously have a bad connotation in general. However that laregly stems from older generations, younger people like myself understand better and it isnt such a sign of disrespect or to appear 'in a gang' or something. Also quite easy to distinguish between that type of tattoo and something that has alot of thought.

i guess it just depends on how your brought up and stuff, shapes your opinions

The best come back you can muster is "dunno what hell-hole you come from, but is it where all the other renecheaters hideout with nothing better to do since theyre banned everywhere :)". Quite sad really. Also, I'm banned at Jelly and that's it - doesn't affect me much as I hate Marathon with a passion anyways. Tattoos are definitely considered "lower class". Think of a dog and marking it's territory it's kinda like that but you're marking your body with ink.

thats your opinion of tattoos?...pretty sad, i thought ewd's was bad!

dogs mark their territory to say its theirs and to discourage others from coming around....like many other animals.

i dont really see how getting a tattoo is anything remotely like that. I certainly dont know anyone that gets a tattoo to overtly tell others that their body is theirs or tell people to fuck off....i guess some gang tattoos might discourage people tho Razz

and yeah they do tend to have a bad connotaion as i said, but i think thats more from older generations that dont understand younger generations. It seems its much less looked down on with people of my generation, but i guess that differes between countries/geog and what kind of society your brought up in

meh, analogy doesnt make that much sense to me, but i guess thats your view.

as i ssaid, mines also going to be on my ribcage, one of my criteria was to ensurfe its always covered in day to day life. Its definitely not just to show people or mean anything like stay away haha!

If you are drawn to Korea, and this is where the inspiration comes from, and you would like that physically represented on your persons, then wouldn't it make more sense to have it written in Korean, and not Chineese?

I find it fascinating that you randomly chose another langauge for the text, but cannot give a reason why.

I wonder if it's because the single characters are symbolic of meaning, rather than representing letters of the alphabet. Kinda like road signs or other means of symbolism.

I've often toyed with the idea of having a Tibetan om tattoed on my back.

LOL! I'm not saying tattoos are bad. I'm saying that I think that if you do put on something permanent on your body, you should know for certain what it means. If you cannot read it yourself and it's not a text given to you by some special person, then why put it on your body?
Tattoos with a personal meaning can be extremely beautiful and fitting. Tattoos which incorporate Chinese because of you designing something in Korea does not seem well though of to me. As Reborn states, why Chinese if your experience is in Korea? And, if you want it in Chinese, you should carefully decide on which Chinese language.

I was trying to encourage you to think this through. From what I've heard it's a rather painful process to have it removed.

There's 2 sides of Liverpool the North and the South. The south being generally upper class which is where I reside.

Flamingz If you want to get a tattoo then go for it, I'm just saying from where I'm from it's considered lower class.
