would it be possible to make the patch check the client computer's operating system and have it install the patch automatically into the correct directory without having the person select it themselves? it'd probably prompt more people to install if they didnt have to think about how to go about it

Then again, banning anyone for anything automatically makes you a biased prick who shouldn't be a moderator.

The operating system does not matter, it's just where Renegade is installed. The installer attempts to find this directory automatically, but this location is not necessarily correct (for example if you moved Renegade after installation, or have multiple copies installed). In that case you can manually change it.

Err... It should do that, but it doesn't AFAIK. I know I got my reg entries right, and it still points to C:\Westwood\Renegade in the installer.

It doesn't grab the TFD Renegade folder either if you have TFD apparently.

However, I only need to go to the latest HUD thread at RenForums to remind me of how dumb I was for thinking such stupid things.

Could one of you who have TFD installed please check the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Westwood/Renegade InstallPath

and tell me (1) what is says and (2) where you installed Renegade.

What it says and where it is installed is the same Thumbs Up
E:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade\Renegade\Renegade.exe

I had to select the correct path myself though.

Are you sure that they are exactly the same, and not very similar? If I recall correctly, the default TFD install dir (not in the registry) had some "(tm)" or similar somewhere, or the "&" character was incorrectly set in the registry, or something like that.

So you are sure that they are exactly the same? Then we will need someone else (who used the default location) to post those details. Smile

Ok. Smile I was just asking since you didn't mention it explicitly. Wink

Anyone else with TFD installed who can look up the two paths and post then?

C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade\Renegade\Renegade.exe is what it is by default (in the registry) but that's not the ACTUAL path by default afaik.

The default path where it installs to is: C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade(tm)\Renegade\Renegade.exe (for 64bit OSes that is)

So by default it would seem the registry entry doesn't even point to the right location. Did I use enough of the word "default"? Razz

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. It seems to miss that (tm). I'll try to make the TT installer correct this incorrect entry, since it may cause problems when logging into XWIS and with the serial validation.

The installer should now auto-correct things like these, and if it cannot figure out the right path for decryption of the serial, it will ask you to reenter your serial in the install process. It should almost always be able to determine this automatically though.
