1)I will be taking the CISCO academy during fall semester that will take me one year to finish, and to become certified, does anyone know the normal range of hourly base pay?
2)Does anyone recommend, "or if there is any", books on learning the basic OS of Linux

1.) I got CCENT certification a while back if that's what your talking about, no idea about the pay though.
2.) What I'd recommend the most is installing Linux on one of your machines, getting a VPS, or even a dedicated server to learn on. Books are great but you need to apply your knowledge. Let me know if you want an account on one of my boxes to screw around in. I have BSD boxes too, if you're interested.
