Old news... The american government was going to shut down in april, which would have delayed soldier's paychecks. I haven't heard anything again about this situation, so this probably shouldn't be your worry about joining the military.

Old news... The American government was going to shut down in april, which would have delayed soldier's paychecks. I haven't heard anything again about this situation, so this probably shouldn't be your worry about joining the military.

Thanks for a real answer, I think the person was referring to anytime right now not just before the government shutdown situation.

Military service is a good idea... if you aim to have them pay your school, or you attend an academy like West Point. The US Military has a lot of scholarships, and will assist with tuition. Even housing allowances if you attend full-time.
There are a lot of other perks. Companies often have military discounts, and quite a few young soldiers often get bonuses for signing, which they use towards purchasing a home. The military even helps facilitate very reasonable mortgages and lending.

To bump this topic: a dutch news program found out that about 107000 USA army veterans are homeless, most due to post-traumatic stress syndrome and subsequent alcohol/drugs abuse. There are not enough places for these veterans to go to resolve their problems.
So much for the guys stating it's always a good time to join the military.
On the other hand, joining it is probably not the problem... Returning to normal life afterwards is...
