I actually ordered this a while ago, but the company has been going through a lot of grief so it took a while. Good news is that I finally got it in my hands and it is awesome.

I ordered a 100mw E3 (back when they sold them in E3 casings) but the label on it says <500mw and other people I've talked to said that 100mw shouldn't be as strong as the things that I said it can do. That leads me to believe that they accidentally gave me a 200mw laser by mistake. I'm not complaining since they sent me a more expensive laser for cheaper.

Anyway, I have some pictures that I took. They aren't the best quality because I used an iPod Touch 4 though.

At night time this thing is a beast. I took it outside the other day and shined it at some clouds (being careful there weren't any planes nearby, of course). The beam is so crisp and clear and it reaches all the way into the sky. It's amazing being able to have a device that can touch the clouds at the press of a button.

I'll take some night pictures later today and post them.

I hate it when people do that. If enough people do that then it's a one way ticket to a nation wide ban. It's just stupid. It isn't hard to follow the safety protocols: wear protection and don't annoy people with the beam.

Anyway, I did take some night shots however the camera I used is crappy and they aren't very good. It just looks like a green line on a black background. There is no sense of depth which makes it look dramatically less impressive.

Here they are anyway:

You can buy 2 watt lasers ("Laser Diodes") off ebay that you can burn a hole in metal with.

Depends; is the med tank moving? If so, I'd say it take many hours from a close proximity (1-5ft) to burn a 1-3mm sized hole into the hull.

Wow, we need a license where I live to own a laser that powerful. That is really cool, time to build a lightsabre!

They aren't illegal in the USA, they are illegal to be sent through customs.

Owning one isn't a problem but sending one through customs is. There is a high probability that US customs will confiscate any laser over 5mW.

Don't ask me how I ended up with mine. I don't know and I don't care. I got it and that's all that matters.

Honestly, the main reason that I got it was because it was cool.

However this device is excellent for stargazing. It allows you to show other people what stars you are looking at exactly or it helps to align telescopes.

Bump cause I gots me a new camera.

Managed to get a halfway decent shot of some sky-pointing action:

It is still running on the same batteries that I originally put in it... so it's beam is actually duller than it normally is in that shot.

If law enforcement saw you pointing that thing in the air you would pretty much get tackled.

I remember this story a few years back .. it was on TV. They got in big trouble... the plane's black box caught it on tape too.

I'm extremely careful not to point it at any planes, people, or reflective surfaces. I turn it off when a car drives by and I turn it off if a plane is anywhere in my field of vision. Why should pointing it at an empty spot in the sky be illegal?

Precaution, I suppose. Where I live we have military aircraft fly over occassionaly and I have seen in person a SR-71 Blackbird flying without visible lights on and those aircraft are very hard to see at night, so your skies may not necessarily be "clear". Of course this is probably rare and may not apply to your area, but it is the only practical example I could come up with. I'm not against shining lasers into the air myself, as I have had a few Astronomy classes and I can see where they are useful for such purposes, but lasers are shunned by law enforcement for the most part.

I guess it can be pretty ridiculous. I still argue that my fist is more dangerous then a laser or a plastic butter knife (Air travel policy) for example and the government is always trying to ban everything.
