HDD -> SSD = A tangible and noticeable difference for certain/specific things
SSD -> Faster SSD = You won't notice anything different at all unless you're into some seriously heavy workloads
That said, go for the cheaper drive.
More importantly, go with a reliable company that doesn't take advantage and rip off its customers after totally fucking up.
PS: All the next generation controllers are just around the corner so you might wanna hold off for now.
PPS: New SSD's are very susceptible to firmware bugs so current (matured) drives are a safer bet.

Seeing as the Vertex is only five dollars difference after rebate, I'd go with that. Despite OCZ's pulling a fast one on consumers, their support forum is excellent, and the Sandforce controller that these drives use is terrific.
However, if you intend to use this drive as an OS drive, I'd recommend an SSD that is at least 80GB. Otherwise, you'll find yourself continually juggling programs around.
I would also update your chipset drivers. AMD's chipsets have only begun to support TRIM recently. Also, make sure you know how to configure your OS to best support your SSD. A good chunk of research can be done on OCZ's forum.

Good advice guys, I have already ordered the one I posted above (vertex 2),
1)how ever is there anyway to run programs off a separate hdd? just in case? I know some programs will work
2)if not, then maybe I can us this as a backup harddrive for some stuff
3) or if none of the above is worth it, then ill return it but I want to see what you guys who have more experience with this than I has to say about it

It's easy. Just specify the drive letter in 'Disk Management' after installing the SSD, format the drive, then you can create folders in it as you normally would.
For example, I have two SSD's. One is for the OS, the second SSD holds games and software I use often, and then my spinning drives contain programs that I use less often.

SSD's don't (yet) support the TRIM command in RAID configurations, so you're relying purely on the controller's garbage collection.
Also the more spare space you have on the drive the better its performance will be, so it makes sense that you lose performance over time as you fill the drive more and more.

Nice tips guys, but I might put a copy of windows 7 on the ssd and have the os on both so I can us them for separate things

One SSD is rated at 50,000 IOPS and the other is rated at 10,000IOPS...and you ask if there is a difference? Of course there is, the 50,000 IOPS is 4x faster in IOP operations! The more IOPS the faster it is accessing files on the SSD, which is helpful if you have small files being accessed a lot.
Of course if you compare either SSD to a standard 7.2K Hard Drive that is rated at maybe 100-150 IOPS, then it doesn't matter which SSD you get since it will be MUCH faster than that crap Hard Drive you currently have. 
(I currently use 8-10 SSD's, and you wont regret it)

I know about the loss of performance. That's not really an issue when you tend to reinstall at least each 6 months and got at least 400MB/s transferrates anyway.
But if the drive completely stops working then this is an actual issue, because the performance then is lower than any other drive.
