The only reward for donations should be self-satisfaction. Expecting something out of a donation is basically extortion.

That doesn't make any sense. In fact, its insulting the way you put it.

How is the rewarder expecting anything out of the rewarded?

If I ran a server, how is me giving a reward to people who donate to the server translate into them expecting a reward? Why should MY thank you gift be considered extortion on THEIR part?

The server owners are giving the people who donate rewards of THEIR own free will. The people who donate aren't expecting a thing unless it was advertised that they would get something.

I think your last sentence about sums it up...

Perhaps I'm just bad at explaining my point of view. I was just trying to show my distaste and the often misuse of the word "donation" when in reality many are simply substituting this word because it sounds less negative than other words.
If it is advertised or common knowledge that you get a reward by "donating" then it isn't really a donation at all, it's simply a trade/deal/purchase.

As for my implied insult I apologize if I offended anyone, that was not my intention. You're right, extortion is too strong a word, after all, the funds gained do go directly back to the server (I assume) which means there's no personal gain.
Like I said earlier, I see nothing wrong with what they're doing but now I'm just repeating myself so I'll stop.

Come now, don't be naive. Word catches on that if you donate, you'll get certain perks and advantages. It's not like "Hey n00bstories, I see you're doin' it tough so I thought you could use some cash because I'm such a decent guy/girl...oh, whats that, a reward? Oh wow, gee, I didn't expect that, thanks!"

As you say, the aforementioned benefits you get after donating are "unexpected rewards" for such generosity; therefore, the merit in donating to the server, is indeed in the act of donating itself, because of the caring and generous qualities that some possess.

However, I'd wager that 50% or more of the people who donated KNEW about the rewards. This certainly does throw a spanner in the works. It no longer becomes a simple act of generosity, even if you do care about the server; because as you decide to, or not to donate; you can't help but think of the "reward" you will get if you do, thus making one more inclined to donate.

I'd also wager that if you gave rewards to some, but withheld from others, you would get complaints such as "How come I don't get a purchase discount, why can't I do this, I donated didn't I?"

Imo, the real reward from donating is not one given to you. It comes from within. It's the satisfaction gained by knowing that the money you gave is allowing you and others collectively to have a good time together on a server you care about. It's the ability to see the community and fellow players you've known over ren for years to still stick around, and not fall apart or lose contact because the server needed a few bucks to stay online but nobody donated. Finally, I think every player should feel obliged or at least have the smallest iota of an inclination to contribute something to those who's time and effort goes into keeping the server we all play on for free; online.

Call what I wrote above too serious or what have you, but it's my opinion on what giving, and donating is all about. You don't expect rewards in return, thus we should not get any; because we don't need them. The server's owe us NOTHING. We owe them.

Obviously the reward system is just an incentive to donate, because the real qualities needed in people to donate is lacking. Sure, there are those who donate without knowing of, or expecting rewards, and hats off to those people.

So in closing, giving people advantages like this on the server; I feel, is the wrong way to go about it. I'll reiterate it again

- You don't need, nor should you expect a reward(s) for donating to a Rene Server so that it may stay online.

-Donating is an act of charity, because you CARE about the server; and acknowledge that there are people who give up countless hours and $ to give you one to play on for free. It's not about donating for/chances of getting rewards.

When you're getting something in return, it's not donating. It's purchasing.

Anyways, if I were the owner, I'd consider this a very stupid way of rewarding donors. Not only it gives an unfair advantage, but it scares away/pisses off a lot of the users. But, since it's their server, they can do whatever they want and there's really nothing we can do about it other than complain about it to others and not play it.

iirc it's announced via those rotating/random host messages what the benefit of donating is.

Quite frankly, it's none of our damn business how others run their servers so I'd rather they just move on and find another place they can enjoy playing, rather than have petty complaints like the OP. Let's face it, this thread is nothing more than seeking attention, despite some of the more thought-out replies.

You do what you have to do, if the only way you can get people to help you keep your server on-line is by giving bonuses to players that help you keep the server on-line so be it. The alternative is that the server closes down. In addition it's not cheating, anyone can make a donation, thus everyone has the option to play on the same level, you're just choosing not to. (You/your being anyone that chooses to complain about how the server gives benefits to its players, continue to play on the server, and believe its cheating).

If you don't like what they're doing, don't play it, it's their game too and they have the right to modify the game play how they like. If it really bothers you that much feel free to play on one of the 100x empty servers.

"Cheating implies the breaking of rules." and in this case its fine by the server's rules, so its not cheating.

Everyone has the choice to play with *cheat name removed*... It's publically availlable. I'm not saying this because I disagree with hex' policy but because of these kind of expressions, people say it's ok to use advantage skins and building bars, which it clearly isn't.

It doesn't matter to me if you did it yourself or let IC3. I am not a racist and you damn well know it. It was a simple slip of the tounge. I apologised publically and so forth, putting it right with those concerned, and most people respected me for that. Obviously you have no such respect, making such irrational and defamatory remarks in public.

Also, I tried using those commands once as a veteran and I assure you they did NOT work. I understand there are some changes to the veteran system being implimented, hopefully this will include making those commands available to all players as you say. At least this would bring about some balance.

I'm indifferent two the last two, just don't like the skins because they make this game look bad when vids get posted on youtube.

REAL cheats however, (like the ones that make YOUR nod auto rifle more powerful then MINE nod auto rifle or give you the ability to aim at people with even using the mouse, walk/see though walls, etc). are clearly different than people's inability to be able to deal with other people being to lazy to press the j/k keys on occasion. Having a wider FOV allows you too see more, but anyone with a wide screen monitor will be fine with that, even though some people don't have the money to get a wide screen monitor. But if money makes having an advantage fine in one case I don't see how it should in another.

But you know what, if the only reason the server exists is because the guy "cheating" helped pay for it to still exist, I'll deal with it.

when did I deny saying that?

One thing I did brush on is that the resulting drama has been appropriately dealt with, and everyone (but you) is over it.

Also, you are a retard if you think you can sum me up based on one single statement I made, not that I care what you think.
