Anyone in America not wanting this bill to be passed? I find it to be a large hindrance on the population. It's not like the taxpayers pay for the lifestyles of people who "can't afford to live"... oh wait, that's right, we do.

A large hindrance on the population? I think tens of millions of people not having access to health services is a larger hindrance on the population on the whole, socially.
If you're worried about a financial burden, then pressure your officials to plug up the loop holes that allow the top percentile of income owners to ferry out their taxable income to 'haven's'.

Given the options presented, and the fact that his opposition aren't even willing to co-operate on matters, he's going with the best implementation available.
At least he's keeping a campaign promise, and sticking to it. If it fails, well it fails. I'm no fan of Obama, but I'm impressed that he's been so vigorously pushing this initiative. I can't remember the last time I've seen a politician actually keep such a 'hard' promise and persevere. It's one thing to promise tax cuts and proceed with them, but its another when it comes to promise something that will shape the country.

The problem is he's been in a position where he could easily get it through, but hasn't. It's like he's trying to get more people to like it, yet the more he tries to campaign for it (lol), the more people seem to hate it.
also, the opposition is willing to try and talk out a compromise, but he pretty much will only listen to stuff that agrees with him; everything else is shot down and ignored...
plus, given America's track record, I don't think giving more power to the government is such a great idea.

He's been trying to cater to people on all sides of the spectrum because he's been trying to present himself as a bi-partisan politician. Yes, he could ram it through, but then the Republican party and independents would view it as a liberal, socialist, unionist ploy to expand government. I suppose that attitude hasn't really changed, but you can't blame him for trying.
Frankly, I can't blame him for giving up on a compromise with the right/right-of-center because the rhetoric by those in the 'tea parties' and on talk radio is so toxic, and unproductive. When you've got people in crowds calling Obama some really bad things, and likening health care to Armageddon, you know it's not worth your time to negotiate with them. Obama's put out an olive branch, and kept it there, seeking moderation in the debate. But instead of sitting down to talk, they're just screaming louder and louder, likening his overtures as being indecisive.
As for the big government argument. Yes it's true that health care will expand government's reach. But here's the thing that confuses me - why isn't Glenn Beck crying about the ginormous reach that Bush gave the US government after Sept. 11th? Forget the bailouts, and other initiatives, and just look at the new Department of Homeland security, and the increased jurisdiction of other agencies; those likely intrude into people's lives more than health care.
Yes preventing terrorism is important. But what's more dangerous to America? A nutjob who thinks he's really damaging the 'Great Satan' or a previously middle class family that is facing bankruptcy because they're paying bills for health care?

I think what Obama is doing is a good thing, and follow Ziggy Sobotka's advice
What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do.

Bush is much brighter than most people say he is. I recall hearing estimates pegging him at an IQ of 125'ish; I'm inclined to agree, after what I've read about him. That also means he's 15 IQ points higher than me.
But hating on Dubya is a European pastime anyways. It's what all the cool kids like to do.

Honestly, the whole problem the media had with Bush is the fact that he is Republican. The media is (for the most part) democratic sympathizing. There are a few exception, but they're rare.
|
Doubt it. Fox News is the most watched network in the US. MSNBC, which is pretty skewed to the center-left is in second place. The so-called 'Clinton News Network' was dead last in viewership last I checked.

What's up with everyone knowing their IQ scores? I've always scored somewhere in the top 10% online, but never cared enough to go through with a real one. You can only measure one of many pillars of intelligence with those types of questions anyway. My underachieving, pot-smoking cousin likes to talk about how he has a supposed genius IQ, but he's one of the easiest people to manipulate and has never impressed me with intellectual insight.
Nikki, these neocon libertarians (I don't even know what to call them, because their philosophy is so contradictory) think that the only thing government has to do is protect our freedomz (most importantly safety)...and of course Christian values. I hope the US gets pinko medicine sooner than later. Even a mismanaged program will be better than the ss/medicare/medicaid clusterfuck we're currently subjected to.

I got mine assessed when I was in university. A science department needed IQ scores for a survey and since they had muffins, I was game.

Well that's why I don't understand these 'tea-partiers.' They argue that government shouldn't stick their nose into everyone's business, which is a fair argument to make... but they don't go after the agencies that are actually eroding their freedoms in the name of protecting freedoms. Nor are they having rallies outside of the Dept. Homeland Security or the Pentagon, both of which spend huge amounts of government cash for what are in many cases some very dubious returns.

| IQ is a pretty good indicator of Intelligence, its just that intelligence by itself doesnt mean a lot...
Also, apologies for derailing by going on about IQs, what I meant to say was simply that Bush wasnt hated for being republican.
now excuse me while i party some on behalf on america.
