Paying double? That's not true, Sony Vaio notebooks are generally more expensive than Macbooks, Dell notebooks are generally a bit cheaper. The price difference is greatly exaggerated and silly to use in a debate without providing an example.
Changing the RAM and Harddrive doesn't void your warranty - what else are you going to change on a notebook? That's more than enough for 90% of students' needs.

Actually, just about anything running windows > Macbook because:
-Students are poor, and Mac's charge more to make you feel special.
-Students are either just going to be taking notes or writing essays, in which case you want Microsoft Word (The real one, not the shitty Mac port)...
-...Or they're taking some programming classes, in which case AH HAHAHAHAHA @ Macs.

-Students might be poor at your community college, but most of them aren't too worried about a price difference that corresponds to roughly one night of extensive clubbing.
-Pages is superior to Word, but I have the feeling I'm arguing with someone who, unlike me, hasn't written term papers with both. Pages simply gives you cleaner layout. I haven't experienced any compatibility issues, either. Keynote is miles ahead of Powerpoint...it's really easy to make a presentation look professional with those templates, Powerpoint doesn't even come close. I'm not an avid Excel/Numbers user, so I can't comment on those two.
-Those last two points just show there your argument is heading - nowhere. So you're trying to tell me that my point about most students being better off with a Macbook is wrong because I disregarded the horde of IT-nerds and hardcore gaming-addicts? Big Grin

If you don't have a mouse laying around, you don't get to use your computer. Touchpads suck, and nothing Apple can do to them will fix that.

Not sure how things work in community college, but you won't be catching too many students around here that carry their mice along with them...it's an inconvenience that no longer necessary with a Macbook. I'm pretty sure the casual gamers can either live with the games ported to OS X or get hold of a copy of windows (which everyone has laying around somewhere). Again, if you're talking about the IT-Nerds and hardcore gamers, you might want to check up the definition of most, as in 'most students'.
