I didn't say it's all based around skill, I said it is largely based on taste, and that skill (or uniqueness) can be a topic of discussion.

Cool song though.

You can't have a discussion based on taste, because it always goes like this:
Prima: I like X
Secunda: That band sucks. I like Y
Prima: That bad sucks. I like Z
Secunda: That band sucks. I like...

Similarly, "uniqueness" isn't an appriciable or particularly relevent quality, since something can be unique and be terrible in its uniqueness.

That leaves skill. I've posted some Dream Theater, so for all intents and purposes the discussion is over.

I think skill and artistic flow also come into play. It doesn't have to have 57357397593759379 notes to be good. That being said, shitty lyrical bands need to stop. I'm tired of almost all music being centered around (usually shitty) lyrics.

And therein lies the difference between what I posted and what so we all say posted, the difference between Prog and shitty mathcore.

You would have me believe there's no accounting for taste, but there is.

In any case, it doesn't really matter if you enjoy it or not. You can't kill the Metal.

They're OK, if only because I've had to listen to them in the car since I was little. I prefer 'Waterloo' myself, especially when covered. Mr. Green

Yeah, it's awesome. Some songs I can't stand, but a few are real fun to crank up.

On another note: the lack of Leonard Cohen is disappointing.

Electronic, techno, hardstyle etc. music dosent need any musical skills to make it. You just get any better music maker and put samples in, all the theory. While you have to get some music knowledge in practice in theory to make Rock,Rap,Any pop,Reggae, classic,Country,Folk, funk etc..
