That's bullshit. I've removed countless Reborn leaks, leaks of other mods, people's private information (such as phone numbers, real names), etc. over the years. It's only now that NS has become a victim that all of sudden I'm "biased".
I'm the bawss.

Well, since I can't READ private messages, it kinda shoots that little theory out the window, doesn't it? And no, they can't do it without RenForums unless they happen to have another place in common to contact each other privately.

Wait, so you randomly revoked ppls PM priv's w/o having any evidence to suggest that any1 had been leaking information?

And as we've seen, that rule hasn't been followed. This is pretty much just another example of how well the heads of this place, and n00bstories are at adhering to their own rules.
Troubling.

Come on, you know tht programs like MSN exist right? You also know that nowadays creating a temporary website is even easier than logging in to this forum right?
Also, the rule wasn't there before they leaked private information (presuming that they did) so it is kinda unfair to first take their PM rights (outside of direct NS bussiness of course) and then implement a new rule. If you would've warned them, most of them would immediately stop posting it here. Surely they would probably find other places, but that is something you can't stop any way.
Unless you planned on taking down communities which they could use to communicate?

Read the rule again:
Quote: | Private Messaging: Due to the inability to screen private messages, your ability to use them may be temporarily disabled if you are suspected to be involved or closely related to the violation of any of forum rules.
|
That's exactly what I'm talking about. Without the ability to read them, (and the fact that I find that to be a breach of privacy that I do not wish to commit), the removal of private message PRIVILEGES may have to occur while a leak is still active.

So when exactly is a leak inactive according to you? Why do you still think people are leaking said info? If it's leaked once people can still tell stuff to others, if you haven't noticed most people have given up on leaking the stuff.. so when do you even think about putting it back in place? If you haven't noticed, there are innocent people complaining in this thread.

Also, it's not as though there aren't other forms of communication. Again, I understand your concern Crimson, but sometimes security comes at the cost of freedom. It's almost never worth the tradeoff in the end.

Hmm. I wasn't considering them.
Tushe, I suppose.
Edit:
I do tend to agree with what Zimmer said (lol). I can personally see two roles here. One is a role of concern and security, the other is just the flaunting of show-offy power.
If someone is to be involved in an info leak, the info would most effectively be spread through faster means, such as an IM.. not a PM on a forum, especially a forum were the admin is also an admin of what the leak pertains to.
Wouldn't it be more effective to punish said people by revoking a more effective privilege? What exactly is revoking PMs going to do other than start a bunch of stupid debates that get a bunch of ignorant bystanders, like myself, involved?
(I'm about to get flamed from the other side for saying that, but that's how I feel the punishment should be dealt.

Ok seriously, I don't care about the n00bstories issue; it happened, it's done.
I would just like my PM privileges back. I did not leak anything or even PM anybody during the time all that shit took place. But now I can see multiple PMs waiting that I can't possibly read at this moment. Look, if you'd like, dump all the SQL entries associated to my PM inbox and then I'll supply the exact same amount of PMs to your email, or wherever. I'd just like use of it again.
And just to say, Chew was never really involved with Exodus. SoQRadio plays there, but wasn't even playing Renegade when all this happened I believe...

If I understand correctly, as Crimson has no way of knowing who would leak this information, she choose to disable PM rights for anyone from close or from far involved in the issue. So that explains why some of you, who did nothing but become an active player / member of this new community, got their PM right disabled.
That being said, it's honorable from Crimson to respect your privacy. Especially as it's extremely easy to modify this forum software to allow the admins to read PM's.

So if I understand it right you either block some peoples PM's at random? Or if I read the rules right, you should disable the PM system while a leak is active.
Anyway, for what time is a leak active then? I mean, if exodus counts as an active leak then that's fine, but please elaborate.
