Intel released their new P55/Socket 1156 lines, and it looks like they'll be the sweet spot if you're just looking for great gaming performance, and don't care about how fast you render videos, or whatever. It's also much cheaper, so you'll wanna look into prebuilt system's that have Core i5 750's or i7 860's.

Seconded. i5 would be perfect unless you're looking for tri/quad sli/cross fire and need the extra pci-e bandwidth.

What do you mean by 'rendering video?'

Stuff like encoding DVD's to different file formats, or creating your own video content, like 3D movies, or home video. A Core i7 CPU has 'hyperthreading' so it's insanely fast at running that sort of stuff, as well as other media-centric and productivity programs.

However, if you're just primarily gaming, then that sort of thing isn't really necessary at all. An i5-750 doesn't have it, and is thus much cheaper, so you can put more coin to a beefier graphics card.
