zunnie wrote on Sun, 28 June 2009 10:36 | I'm trying to install Visual Studio 2005 but the installprogram "thinks" another program is still waiting to be completed :/
I tried restarting the pc but that didnt fix it neither.
It probably saved some stuff in the registry which stops vs from installing now.
Does anyone know where windows keeps history of 'currently installing' programs so i can remove the entry and allow vs to install?

Nope, however deleting all keys under a name similar (use the search function in regedit) to visualstudio should do it.
By any chance are you running Norton AV?
BTW, wrong subforum.

Dthdealer:
Could you *please* read what somebody is saying before giving them potentially destructive advice? zunnie's post is clearly saying that *another* program thinks it's install is pending, not Visual Studio.
zunnie: Use msizap (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301) to clean up any pending installs.

The exact error i get is this:
[06/28/09,02:23:23] MSXML 6.0 Parser: [2] Error code 1618 for this component means "Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.
|
I've had this once and a reboot solved it
I would also suggest using a registry cleaner like CCleaner.
You could also check that you have all necesary windows updates.
PS. Why not use VC++ 2008?
EDIT: Weird thing is it says MSXML 6.0 Parser while it seems the newest one that is pushed through Windows Update still version 4.0 SP2 is...
