I'm wondering if there's a way to fix, or at the least, reduce lag spikes. This occurs mostly on games. I've updated my drivers for my wireless adapter, for my audio and video card. I also tried to turn off firewalls, anti-virus program and other programs like msn, xfire,...
I use wireless internet with a D-link router. This on my desktop pc with XP. On my laptop with Vista, it works just fine.
This has been for a few years, and I could live with it because I've mainly played Ren and didn't had much problems on RTS games, but now it's getting annoying on other games like Left 4 Dead...
Any advice?

We need more info. Computer specs? DSL line specs? Is it ping, kbps or FPS spiking when you lag/warp?

Pc specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Hard Drive: 150 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Sound Card: Realtek HD Audio output
Operating System:
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (tried service pack 3 this morning, had a bunch of errors so I went back to 2).
I'm not too sure about DSL specs, hardly know what it is, I feel dumb lol... Here's what I think it is: (sorry if I got the wrong info)
Download Speed: 2432 kbps
Upload Speed: 474 kbps
Wireless net speed: 54.0 Mbps
About the FPS/ping/kbps lag, I'm not sure about the difference, but I tell you what I'm experiencing. I connect to the server, when I'm on it, I play a minute or two before the first lag spike, then my screen freezes for 5 seconds with the message: "Connection Interrupted". Then the lag's gone, and after 2-3 minutes, it happens again and again & again...
Here some screens: It's from Jedi Academy. On the second screen, I had to press tab to see my ping, so I think the biggest lag was already gone, usually I have a steady 150-200.
EDIT: I did a driver scan and got the following results, are the things in red essential to play less laggy? I only updated video card, audio, and wireless card.

Yup, I also suspect your wireless connection. It could also be the modem. Try connecting with a wire first.
You're on Telenet, so unless you're over your monthly limit, your speed should be quite a bit higher than what u posted. Plz post the results from www.speedtest.net .

Yeah, I have Telenet, but not the Turbo net where you pay 60 + euros (I think).
Well, a wire will be difficult because I still live with my parents and they aren't the easiest people to make something clear about pc's.
Anyway, if it's my wireless net, I guess there's nothing I can do... Thanks anyway.
EDIT: I read something about "Wireless Zero Configuration". Some say that if you stop it, it sometimes work to fix lag issues. I tried to stop it, but then I lose my connection.

Well, I read on some sites and forums that if you disable that Windows Zero thing and configure your internet yourself, you may get rid of those lag spikes. But then again, it's the Internet.
Yeah, I'm sure it's virusfree atm, I formatted not too long ago and hardly used this pc. My router is in my brother's room, more or less 6-7 meters away.

I didn't say: loose the wireless, I said: put your PC close to the router for 15 minutes to test if u have the same problem with a wire.
If you don't, then there's still wireless solutions. Your wireless receiver may need to be replaced. But we first need to ensure that the problem is the wireless conn.

Ahh. I had the same problem, and I got a wireless connection to my router too. Even after a buying a new 300N router (also a new PCI Wireless card which fitted with the router), I had the problem.
The problem had to due with Vista searching for new networks every 1-2 minutes. During this short "search", it would cause a major lagspike. I had this with XP too, although it mainly occurs on Vista.
Try this application, and see if it fixes it:
WLAN Optimizer .NET
http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/
Although it is ment for Vista, it might work for XP too.
