On my laptop I have a few malware files that I can't get rid of. I know they are there for a fact because:
1. The entire computer and internet connection runs extremely slow, much slower than it ran normally.
2. I get popups randomly when connected to the internet, which I never before gotten unless on specific sites.
3. I can see 3 common malware files in my startup programs list when I type in 'msconfig' in Run. (They keep on re-enabling themselves to start upon boot). I first noticed them on around April 1st. (I figured it was ironic because I didn't get the virus everyone was so afraid of, but, instead, got a different one on the same day.)
The files are:
- Vehotora
- Vewalimu
- Tavagato
Sometimes they change their names when I reboot after telling them not to start automatically on boot. (Which doesn't do anything because they just enable themselves again anyway)
Anyway, I've tried many different solutions.
1. Finding the files manually and deleting them. They are supposedly in my System32 folder, but no such files exist.
2. Used my virus scanner (Avast! 4.8 ) to scan and tell me what to do with them. It doesn't detect them.
3. Used Ad-Aware. But its scanners didn't detect anything at all after 2 hours of scanning.
4. I downloaded some virus scanner from the internet called 'Exterminate-it!' That scanner worked exceptionally well, it found the files I wanted it to find plus many other ones and registry errors... however it was a trial program and I needed to pay $30 to actually let the program remove the problem files...
I am 100% positive that these files DO exist. Does anyone know of any other programs that I can download for free that can give me a decent scan and actually remove the files?

Oh yes trend micro is the best we use that at the school I work at, very clean and effective.
But, if you would have read his post you would have noticed that he said "for free" trend micro costs like $100 dollars a year.

*waits to get flamed* I use the corporate edition of symantc anti virus
and it works wonders...hardly any process or services and no fancy GUI
it finds all types of virus even 10 deep in a zip....it also scans memory and much more....if it finds one it has a few things to do with it and also can remove them on system boot if needed..also gives u TONS and tons of info on that virus and how to remove it step by step and the changes it makes and type of files and number of infections and registry changes and what services and start up it creates
and if its hard to remove some virus have a special .com removal tools
along with that it never let me down once but i also have
ad ware
spy bot
hijack
cwshredder
stinger
walware destroyer
spyware terminator
spy bot (which not a scanner but edits host file and such so most spyware known sites are blocked and etc and very usefull)
and etc
but best way..format pc
