Hey, I just remembered a few months ago somebody (sorry, my memory is bad) put up a link to that Nile Online game. People seemed to enjoy that, so I figured I'd let you all in on a little internet secret here.
Cybernations is a game where, essentially, you create your own nation and grow and expand through acquisition of resources and occasionally, war with other nations. It's entirely multiplayer and browser based and such. A little less visual than one would expect, unfortunately, but once you get into the game it can be pretty fun, especially once you factor alliances into the formula, etc.

I played this game once. It's very serious (the alliances anyway) and that kinda drove me away... great game nonetheless.

The game only allows people from a certain range of nation strength to attack you, so it isn't too much of a worry. Joining a proper alliance will also give you some amount of protection.
