Same. Cheating and LAN glitching is so much less.

People actually played fan maps back then.
But now only UNrues and some other Mappack servers
which are not even active are up.
I guess alot of the people who play would rather just
play the same old Westwood maps over and over,
and over again (and arty wore to get MVP) instead of
playing the Fan maps and being a n00b again.

But yes I still play.

Oh and I forgot the "PF" will encorage more arty woring.

I think it's been about a year since I've played? Maybe a year and a half?

I just got completely fed up with the absolute lack of teamplay between full servers of random people (obviously friends and clans are much more inclined to use teamwork). Everyone wanted to "be a renegade" and go do their own thing. In this game that doesn't work because you actually do have to depend on teammates, otherwise you find your base being crippled which limits what you can do because of their inaction.

It's not like this just happened one day, you know a bad day. No it took several weeks of this before I was fed up enough to just snap one day and stop playing.

But, the game is so addicting that I feel like I might want to start playing again after my hiatus. And now that I have a new DVD drive that isn't broken and can read CDs (my previous one stopped reading CDs about 6 months ago) I can actually install Ren again.

I don't mind the lack of overall team play, as there are still some people who use it. What really annoys me are these people:

"REPAIR THE WF" *buys a sniper* *Wf is destroyed* "YOU GUYS ARE WORTHLESS*
"This team sucks!"

OMG, which reminds me of this guy I was playing with on City flying.

The game just started and we all went out into the field to attack/defend the harvesters. After like 30 seconds to a min, I came back to base to see two artilleries rolling out. I assumed they got donations to get them out earlier. Well, about 3 min after, another person stars saying "Lets do an early artillery rush!" Obviously oblivious to the rush that already took place. He kept going on and on about how people should buy and artillery. Finally, I join up with him and 2 other artilleries and just as we are about to leave the base, GDI starts to attack.

Then the guy says "I told you we should of did an artillery rush, now its too late and wont work!" That's when I said "Actually, this is the second artillery rush. Earlier in the game a few artilleries went over the bridge."

That's when he tells me "stfu noob wtf are you talking about." Then I said "I saw two artilleries leave the base like 30 seconds into the game." Then he says "NO YOU DIDN'T." So I say "Ok... I'm lying" (using sarcasm) and he is like "NO SHIT!" and I was all "I was being sarcastic."

Then he didn't say anything else.

Don't you just love those people?

How were they different?

-nearly unmodded servers with not so many players
-tactics and teamplay were a more important factor and more successful(as a consequence)
-no marathon shit - timelimits with 30-45 min

It used to be that I only played Renegade and Generals, switching off between the two Big Grin ... the gold old days.. I play both very sparingly now..
