So, I downloaded opera a while back. I love it and haven't used IE7 since except on our out-of-touch-with-awesomeness school computers. I haven't had any problems with it at all.
However, this Christmas, I downloaded Opera onto my grandmother's computer because she couldn't listen to something on the internet using IE7. With her consent, I downloaded and installed it and everyone that used it thought that it was better than what I replaced. Within a couple weeks of installation, she noticed something screwy going on with her files and had to uninstall it. She was really pissed about it.
My question, is there a problem with Opera that allows worms or things like that into the program that can mess with your files?

I will never get the need to bother with anything other than IE.
I'm going to guess that opera had nothing to do with her problems. The timing just happened to work out that way.

All I can say is, I use Opera all the time and I have never had any such problems.
As the others stated, AVG is probably your best option.

Its not only about browsers (that was kind of predictable looking at the threads name), but also about Antivirusprograms. good job you, arguing about things that are all the fucking same anyway.

Ah, but so very wrong you are. If they were all "the fucking same anyways", then they would not exist separately like they do.

Try links2 - it has table support and a download manager.
Opera is no-where as susceptible as IE, but java-script can still infect the user's computer.
I'd be using Opera right now, but I can't let go of my noscript and adblock plugins. And no, widgets are not the equivalent, they are toys or mini-programs running off the webkit engine.

Ah yes, adblock, great idea... force advertisers to become even more obtrusive than they already are, because a large number of people aren't viewing what they paid for you to see.
