I hate nVidia's SLi and I hate ATI's catalyst crap and cross-fire shit. I would love a third mainstream option. They both fail.

What would the 3rd option be?

v00d00 or matrox I guess. But nVidia's SLi is based on v00d00's technology, and matrox is AFAIK is not intended for games, but rather rending 3d animation and budget dell systems for big corperates.

I would like a new third option that kick's both there asses.

A third option is coming and it's going to be from Intel, called 'Larrabee; a seperate GPU which will compete directly with ATI and nVidia.

Knowing Intel, this is going to be a big deal because those cats don't fuck around.

ATi by preference.

nVidia is on my shit-list. They totally fucked up an entire generation of graphics cards, sold them anyway, then denied that there was anything wrong until it came out that the problem (which causes chronic overheating and premature failure) affected every single fucking one of the GeForce 8600M boards. Which were installed in laptops sold by every major vendor for more than a year. They will never see another penny of my money for the rest of eternity, even if they do end up making restitution of some kind.

I voted Nvidia because;

Games now and days are made for nvidia cards. 9 out of 10 anyways.

ATi are prone to running at high temperature which is always a bad thing

ATi fail at making drivers for half there cards.

------------

The SLi technology a year ago was really bad and there wasn't really any benefit from having it however they seem to have got it right. Look at there new card to rival ATi's 4780X2. Its basically two Nvidia GTX260's running in SLi and they kick ATi's ass.

Up until recently, I would have said nvidia all the way because of all the ATI crap that we had to go through when building the scripts.dll but my next card may well be an ATI because A.All the ATI crap is stuff that only applied to graphics cards long dead and B.ATI has become a lot more open (they are releasing specs to many of their cards now which I applaud)

Plus the way nvidia is going lately (the whole thing with their GPUs being busted and them trying to hush it up, also there is the fact that they have tried to stifle discussion of problems with their GPUs in at least one forum)

ATI for no real reason, other than Nvidea's mid to high end cards only fit in cases the size of my car's boot (trunk for you Americans).

Also, open source drivers and things from ATI are a good idea. This is interesting news that Intel are trying to compete in the video market. I await their releases...

ATI, they make better hardware, yes many users report problems with their drivers lately, but if you are lucky and blessed by the Machine God, you won't have the problems. Thumbs Up

I have an 8600M GT in my laptop. I bought the laptop with playing CS:S in mind. CS:S = overheat.

I voted for nVidia anyways. FreeBSD support.

Speaking of Graphics cards, here is the one I ordered last night.

Not top of the range Quadro, but still pretty nice.

I'm with ATI, Their hardware is some cases is much better than nVidia's and their cards are generally made for not only games, bt high quality images from movies, and if you want to be real fancy, custom encoder cards for video rendering.

to me their an all-around purpose card and I don't use my computer for games only so yeah, and generally their shit is cheap.

However if nVidia release a card that is pretty bitchin' I'd buy it knowing it's good and suits me well.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

nVidia has multiple versions in a series for a reason.

The cards in the 800 range of a series are made specifically for gaming. However the 200 and 600 ranges are specialized for other purposes such as images and video.

My first few cards were ATI, I got really turned off of them so I switched to Nvidia. I haven't been following ATI at all so I wouldn't buy one of their cards because I'm just not informed.
