What's a good feature rich Digital Camera that has 8mp+ for $200 or less? Right now I have my eyes on these three:
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=12450&pq-locale=en_US (I found it for $180 somewhere else)
http://www.olympuscanada.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1352&fl=2

Canon makes a very good camera. As with Nikon (if you can find one of those), I have yet to ever be dissatisfied with their products.

However, one question... Why the 8 megapixels? In my experience, unless you are shooting high quality portraits, or pictures in general, a large amount of megapixels is dubious.

Instead, I would consider trading megapixels for a better optical zoom, which is very handy, and something a digital zoom cannot replace.

I'd check out this one:

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id= 0665000FS10100062&catid=#

It has 10 megapixels, which is overkill, but also a better zoom.

I can't speak badly enough of Hitachi's HDC-1051E, looks like a good deal to start with, 10.1 mega pixels and quite cheap, but it broke after four months. And getting them to replace it is hard work.
Don't buy Hitachi.

In the current economic climate, everyone should be buying stuff produced and sold on there own soil anyway...

I havent had all that much experience with digital cameras but I will say this. DO NOT buy a Sony. I did and have regretted it ever since. I second the recommendation to buy a Cannon, they make good cameras.

I would recommend Canon for a compact, any one will do really. Unlike in the SLR market Nikon really doesn't compare well with compacts. Buy the best you can afford and ignore megapixel count (It really means fuck all although no retailer would tell you this...).

I've been using Olympus for the past 11 years, I have nothing but positive things to say about their image quality and customer support. I wouldn't buy a FE-320 though, the 340 or 370 are better deals.

Thanks for the replies, I have narrowed my choices down to two Cameras:
http://www.thesource.ca/estore/Product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&am p;am p;am p;category=8-9.9MP&product=2517029
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id= 0665000FS10100062&catid=#

For those who can't see them they are: the Olympus FE-370(for $200) and
Nikon Coolpix(S550) ($200)

EDIT: I'll probably get the Olympus FE-370.

i think Nikon is more reliable company than Olympus, plus it has 5x optical zoom, a very very important factor.

I'm sorry to say this but I really don't rate Nikon compact cameras. The results I have seen really haven't been that good out of box at all. I rate their SLR bodies but obviously you aren't looking for one of those Rocked Over

Olympus has been around a very long time and most of their innovation drives the business as you see it today. Olympus pioneered the small cameras you're seeing now with the PEN system and OM system SLRs. Olympus DSLRs lead the way with dust reduction and image quality, and the four thirds format is incredible for most applications, especially since every lens focal length is doubled. I own a 150-300mm Zuiko lens that's the same as a 600mm lens, and with a 2x tele converter I'd have a 1200mm lens for far less than a 35mm equivilant.

The FE series isn't the greatest camera system ever made, but it's slim and offers a lot of great features with the addition of high resolution and competitive image quality. The only real downside is the requirement of extreme digital xD cards, but they're dropping in price rapidly and you can usually get them on eBay pretty cheap.

Olympus Auctions on eBay's also a great place for refurb cameras. They do a really good job taking care of the refurbs and the FE-230 I bought there was in awesome condition for the price.

Yea the fact that is uses XD cards is the only downside for me, though I saw a 2GB XD card for about $35 so that's not all that expensive, and 1GB for $20.
