If you do that, only people with the same objects.ddb can join.
That means that if people who play normal (clean) renegade can't see the server in the listings. People who have the modded object.ddb can see the server but not the normal renegade ones.
I know this from ecperiance with Tiberium Redux. It has a modified Objects.ddb and the server listings are empty if i use the cliënt. Also if i run the Tiberium Redux server i can't see it with normal renegade. This is because the files don't match.
If i run Tiberium Redux i can join the server normally because the objects.ddb match.

SSGM allows you change the extension of your objects files >_<
ssgm.ini->"ObjectsFile=ddb" (Change to your extension)
