Alright first off I did do a search of the forums and found two other topics with the same problem. One was solved but didn't work for me and the other wasn't solved.

I can run setup up until the part where it says Renegade will install icons to the folder below or you can name your own folder. No matter what name the folder is, when I click next an error pops up saying folder name is invalid, ensure proper syntax. Now someone else said to run setup as admin, didn't work for me. In the other post he tried using a net command in cmd.exe to show the admin account and logged in with that I think. I tried that but cmd.exe says access denied when I try to show the admin account. I'm the only user on this computer. I'm not familiar with Vista as I just bought this computer.

Now I figured I didn't need setup to install, I'll do it manually. Renegade now works but Renguard won't. Serial hash doesn't match serial or some error like that. I'm using my old serial and tried copying the hash in the registry to this computer. Didn't work. Also I get a WOL version incompatible error when I try to get online. Before I just ran setup off the Renegade disc and just installed the WOL components when I got this error. But I can't get setup to get past that point.

Anyone know a way to get setup to continue? Cause that would solve everything.

You need to run setup.exe in admin mode (right click the .exe -> properties -> run as administrator). Vista thinks it needs to prevent writing to the registry unless you actually tell it the program can.

Tried that, I'm attaching ss to prove it's running as admin. I tried with UAC on and off. Still gives the same error. Any ideas?

Yeah that's what I figured. When I was installing Yuri it didn't show any folders either. Nor did it create any folders in the start menu. I assumed Renegade wouldn't create any either but it won't let me complete the setup. I'm thinking it might be trying to create a folder in a place that doesn't exist (c:\documents and settings\....etc) and vista is stopping it from even trying. So now what? I've tried compatibility for win 98 and xp. Neither worked.

Edit: Seems I can't create that folder (c:\documents and settings) either. Vista won't let you.

YAY!!! Finally got it to install. Not sure exactly what happened. Okay I'll take a guess. I tried showing the admin account by doing a "net user administrator /active:yes" in cmd.exe while UAC was turned on and it gave me an access denied error. Don't think I tried it again with UAC turned off till today. Well I was thinking I should try it again with UAC off and it worked this time. So I logged off and logged on with the admin account. Setup worked perfectly. Installed both Renegade and WOL components. Renegade works fine now. Still have a problem with Renguard and my serial hash, but I'll post that in the Renguard client section of the forums.

Edit: K setup seems to have made a proper hash of my serial and added it to the registry. Renguard is now working fine too. I hate Vista...
