As for what I think: "lolwar"

As for who's in the right? Between Georgia and S.O.: S.O. Between Georgie and Russia: neither.

As for who's going to get the beatdown? If Russia actually uses its military force, Georgia will be flattened.

As for who America should help: None.

"Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations; entangling alliances with none."

The US should not become involved. This is most emphatically not our fight.

I agree with Nuke and Cheesesoda...not our problem, let's stay out of it. We don't need to get involved with another war.

I hope Russia annihilates the Georgians.

RIDICULOUS and BIGOTED how the Western media are focusing more on the Georgian side of the story portraying this as a Russian invasion. Greedy Georgians want to keep SO under their control and they march their army into SO. Russia has attacked back as Russia recognizies SO as an autonomous region within Georgia.

Gee sorry, should Russian be named "greedy" for trying to keep Chechen region in their control? South Ossetia is Georgian territory, would you, if you are a head of state, let a militant group separate from your country?

It was their choice to move their, Not Americas, If America gets involved, I guess America will be stereotyped and generalized and hated more.

Besides, I don't want Britain to get involved with a war against Russia.

Shit, they'd flatten us with one bomb.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

True, but the military is obligated by some weird law or something to get Americans out of a warzone as soon as possible.

Say hello to the Russia of the 21st Century, everybody!

From what I am seeing, Russia is doing this not only to assert its power in the region, but it's also giving the finger to NATO at the same time.

Georgia really wanted in on NATO, but now with it's borders invaded, it'll likely be very hard for NATO members to approve adding Georgia, because an attack on one member is an attack on all... and the last thing NATO and it's members want to do is attack Russia at the moment.

If Russia gets away with this, who knows what they might attempt next... if the world remains ambivalent, and does not act on this invasion of a country which embraces Western ideals, Russia may try to enter other areas that are contentious. Remember what happened in 1936; this could very well be Russia's 'Rhineland' .

If Chechnya was allowed by Russia to become a sovereign nation, then it would have become a HIVE of Islamic terrorists and a base of operations for future Jihad terrorist operations.

So Russia was correct to take action against the Chechen rebels and put them out of their sick DAMNED God-forsaken misery.

So, in your mind, all Muslims are terrorists? Wow, racist much? I'm sorry, but many of my friends are muslims, and they are good people, it's just a small minority that's making muslims look bad.

South Ossetia is Georgian territory,

NO.

South Ossetia is an independent breakaway region within Georgia. Georgia has no rights over SO as they signed a treaty in 1992 that allowes SO to function independently.

So since it is a breakway region with a secessionist boundary with Georgia WITHIN Gerogia, the Russian Federation has gleefully provided economic and military aid. South Ossetians are considered "citizens of Russia" by Moscow.

Hey, let the U.S. provide funds and Stinger missiles to the Chechen rebels.

With this situation at hand, the foolish Georgians and their STUPID president Saakashvili invaded South Ossetia to "restore constitutional order"...in essence, take over South Ossetia. And now they are getting owned bad as they deserve.

Hey, let Russia take over all the former USSR countries, since some of them are "breakaway" countries.

What is even more pathetic for Georgia is that they don't stand a chance to win. Their foolish president Saakashvili has come on TV LYING that Russia is making a full-scale invasion of Georgia! LIAR...Moscow has repeated that the goal of the Russian military operation is to RESTORE the South Ossetian border the Georgians came hoping over.

I'm sorry, but shooting civilians and blowing them up with artilleries don't help your "Peacekeeping" theory.

Saakashvili thought that being a pro-Western guy will automatically grant him military support from NATO countries! haha...NOBODY in Europe wants to get dirty with Russia. Only the US is influential and big enough to help Georgia and even then, still cannot provide any military support.

Russia's armed forces' morale is so low, and with many budget cut, most of their equipment won't work, in a conventional war, even Germany can win.

Your statement is completely irrelavent as that is not the case.

Completely relevant, same situation was faced by Georgian and Russian Presidents.
EDIT: typo

If you like Russia so much, go live in it.

No. But due to the actions of said minority, i.e. Chechen rebels, their entire race paid the price.

Ok, by your logic all Christians are bad because of KKK.

wow

Did I say it was a "peacekeeping" theory? I said Russian forces have come to the aid of their allies to wipe out the enemy that has invaded.

Oh and who started this war? Russians! Sarcasm NO, Georgians started this war by invading the pro-Russian South Ossetians. Russia strikes back in fiercesome force NO DIFFERENT then how Israel reacted to Hezbollah in the summer of 2006. But somehow the fault is with Russia?

And as for your quote above, there is a certain amount of civilian casualties and collateral damage that are an accepted norm in modern military warfare. Russia did not do anything excessive so far other than shelling a city that was OCCUPIED by Georgian troops and attacking Georgian military bases and oil depots deep within Georgia (and in the process killing some Georgian civilians as well).

It seemed to have worked as Georgian forces have fled the city.

Funny when Russia goes to war, civilian casualties are immediately brought up. In the same way, nobody wants to mention Iraqi civilian casualties due to the American invasion. And what about Lebanese civilian casualties due to Israel's war in 2006? I smell hypocrisy.

You didn't, but the Russian did.

This shows how slacking you have been in keeping current with Russian economic and military development over the past 8 years.

In 2001, President Putin authorized a massive funding program to rebuild the Russian Air Force. In the years after that, other arms of the Russian military has been rebuilt with more funding.

Russia is rich now, the economy has stablized from the tumultous era of the early 90's, and the military has grown stronger. Russia stopped being a broken nation around 2005. They have been strong and getting stronger since.

I'm sorry, is that why the average Russian citizen still live below Western standards?

There was no 3rd side in Chechnya. It was Chechen rebels vs Russian government. No ally to protect. Your statement is irrelavent.

Yeah I don't have a clue at all, you're right. I'm not over there watching what's going on so my opinion on the subject means about as much as your grade school thesis does. The only verifiable fact is that there's an undeclared war going on over there and its repercussions may end up defining the next 10 years if it becomes any bigger than it already is.

To sum up what I'm saying, don't pretend like you know this whole situation inside and out. I doubt being a Pennsylvanian high schooler gives you a huge insight into what's obviously a very complex situation.

I don't need to research your "arguments" to know you're a pretentious ass. You don't know much about the situation beyond what you've seen in mass media and I think it's obvious to most people that what you and I read online from CNN, BBC, etc is going to be just a little bit more tailored to our viewpoints than Russian news agencies would report. My real problem with you is that you're not right, not by a long shot. You're sitting at home behind a monitor while Russia is attacking Georgia and you think you know the answers to the conflict and what sparked it. Go ahead and do another point-by-point rebuttal, that I won't read, if you think it makes you look smart. But don't pretend that you're informed on a situation you've never even come close to seeing for yourself. When you admit that you know nothing and endeavor to correct that ignorance, you'll join the rest of us and try to figure out what's going on over there.
