How do i set up a WPA2 protected password? not sure how...can i put anything i want as long as i want? and whats the obscure PSK sbox mean? and why is there 2 places to type the password?

One to confirm. "Obscure PSK" probably sets the field type to a password type so you can't see what you type in.

Most likely it'll validate it for valid characters, but yes.

Most likely it'll validate it for valid characters, but yes.

last question on vista the settings for the password on the network give me two options which are

WPA2-Personal
WPA2-Enterprise

which one i choose? personal right?

thanks!!!!!!! hey i got one last unrelated question when i turned "broadcast SSID" to off how can i get a computer to connect to it last time i tryed it says "network (name or w/e) is already a network please select if off available networks list" when i tired to connect to it manual but it was not on the list...if my other pc didn't save the info idk how i would have connected to it

On Vista:
Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center
Click on "Manage Wireless connections" and remove any networks that you no longer want (including the one you're trying to connect to, you have to change it's type...)

Start > Connect To. Windows will state it can't find any wireless networks (because you disabled SSID broadcast) so you have to click on "Setup new connection" or whatever it is at the bottom that lets you make a new connection, from the connection types menu, choose wireless AP / Router (NOT the "Ad hoc" one) and then enter the SSID, Passkey and set the encryption type. Click "Save" or whatever, and then see what happens.

my printer was connected to my network but since my network is WPA2 my printer Manuel says it can only connect WPA-PSK so will it still work?

Dude if you want a secure wireless network its much easier to filter out the connections by MAC addresses. Only allow your network devices MAC address to connect to the network. No need for keys or anything else.

Get all your devices to connect to your computer so that you can retrieve the MAC address and then add them into the filters tab, make sure to include the routers mac aswell.. I've locked myself out before Razz

one thing that sucks is i had to change my security from WPA2 to WPA-PSK tkip cuase of my printer ;(

Yes, enter the address you see there... With the mac filtering option you wont need to use WPA or anything else.. Change that to none and even though you're broadcasting that you have a wireless connection, noone can jump on it because there mac address dont match what you have entered.

Yes you'll have to add every device to the list or it will be refused when it tries to connect. But really having WPA2 along with MAC filtering is just gonna complicate thing further but hey its your call.

Go into the Network Connections, right-click the network adapter, then click Status. Go to the Support tab, then click Details. It's the Physical Address listed.
