Well I Tried To Convince Him not to sell it because of the game Battle Feild Bad Company he was waiting for it, but his car died on him or something and now he has been without a car for like 8 weeks now and he needs a new car or a new engine I think.

I'd be amazed if he got more then $900 for it.
Computers like that aren't very hard to come by. Being that it's used brings down its value quite a bit.
Fry's computer? Never heard of them. Chances are they have very little buying power. Hate to say it but your friend most likely overpaid for a lot of stuff. It's just how the economy is setup.
I priced out laptops at a local "specialty" computer shop. WAY overpriced. stuff with one gig of ram, 15" monitor and single core processor was listed at $999.
