OK i want to convert a Video from AVI to another codec... but whats the best Codec? i want to low down the Size of the Video but i still want to keep the good Quality...

So whatßs the best ?

Well AVI is not a codec its a container... But to answer your question, x264/h.264 is the best codec to use for compressing video at a low bitrate (file size) while maintaining its quality.

I assume he means file type rather than codec. Any will do really, MPG or WMV are common choices.

Depends what kinda encoding your current AVI is in. If you've just got raw AVI from Fraps for example, just encode it into x/h264 like Caveman said. DivX/Xvid also compresses well. If you're looking for an entirely different file type, try WMV. With the right settings, wmv's can compress pretty decently as well.

Right so as I mentioned, use x264/h.264 if you cannot find this codec (took me ages to find one with a GUI) your second best option would be to use the latest version of DivX (which I believe is 6.8.3

Super is an awesome transcoder that can convert pretty much anything to anything. The only bad thing is their incredibly lame download procedure...as you will see process involves navigating their incredibly messy web page, scolling and clicking several times, but you will finally get to the download link (they dont let you get to it directly either).

Yeah its okay too...both it and Super are just frontends for open source encoders like mencoder, mplayer, etc. Super also uses ffmpeg and so can probably do a few more things, but the download process for Super is just ridiculous. Its almost like they try to make it so hard to download that you give up...wtf, heh.

Heh yeah...see what I mean...what the hell are they trying to accomplish? It's not like there are a bunch of google ads or something they are getting money from.

Once you get it, it is indeed a very handy tool. I just wish I could smack them around about their choice of website design.
