Right, where do I start.

I've played renegade for a couple of years, and i must say loved it.

I reformatted my computer, hence having to install the first decade again. So i did that, got renguard, however renguard says at the start "unauthorized file bandtest.dll". I left it and joined a server, i was able to play for 10 seconds and then the screen would go black and it would restart my computer, coming up with "Windows has just recovered from a serious error". I've reinstalled countless times, and now it just doesnt start, i get a black screen with the music of the intro but nothing but blackness.

I don't know if its the disc, but i highly doubt it considering all the other first decade games work a treat.I've installed all the scripts, renegades fully patched

I've read so much posts with other problems and never seen one like this (probably havent looked hard enough)

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, i love this game and would really like to get back to owning GDI!

thanks, kenshinu

Try to locate shaders.dll and d3d8.dll(in the main renegade folder) and delete them or just reinstall the latest scripts(3.4.4).

Easy to use .EXE for installing scripts 3.4.4, which I linked you to because I'm nice.

There you go. Smile

Renguard is a wonderful initiative

Gah, still doesn't work, but thanks anyways.

Im trying yet another clean install. DOes the order that install things affect anything, e.g renguard and the scripts?

thanks, Kenshinu

ps, thanks for the link Very Happy

Don't install RenGuard and the Custom Scripts problems are gone.

About the computer crash...
Crashes which affect the whole computer are mostly caused by the OS, drivers or the hardware. I doubt that you can install any Renegade-stuff which would fix that.

What are the specs of your computer? If it is a fairly old one you should stick to using 2.9.2 if your computer is fairly recent it should work fine with 3.4.4

The black screen u talked about before was probably caused by installing the core patches after installing scripts 3.x. Renguard itself doesn't have anything to do with the custom scripts but if you allow it to download core patches, then it will obviously install them.

About the crashes: seems like a computer wide problem indeed. Maybe overheating? Do you get a blue screen of death? If so, it could also be bad a memory stick or maybe a driver problem?

I don't exactly know how to get my specs, my brother does all the computer stuff. I dont get the blue screen of death, I recently added 2gb of ram and a new video card, my processor sucks, still have to replace that, theres a fair chance it could be overheating.
Ill leave the case open and open the windows etc then try again.

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated!

thanks, Kenshinu
