I was wondering if anyone knew how to set up a hotkey to mute media player when you are running a full screen application.

I know of keyboard shortcuts for it, but they don't work when i'm running games such as ren. Perhaps its possible to make these shortcuts work when full screen apps are running?

Why not just mute it before entering the game, or alt-tab out and mute it?

Global hotkeys support in WMP is a no. There are plugins for it, but they tend to fail on Vista...

I don't mute it because I like listening to music whilst I play and when a nuke is placed I don't like wasting time minimizing to mute(although this is what I do at the moment).

This may not be a very good solution for you but this is what I do. I have an Ipod and I just run it into the line in jack on my sound card. It does not tax the computer at all and allows for very quick control of your listening. Don't feel like this song? Nuts to it! Just pick up the ipod and change it. Much better than alt tabbing and changing the song. In your case it would allow you to quickly mute for beacon hunting, then crank that thing right back up.

You will be amazed at the performance inrease you gain. At least I was :/ I don't even have a crappy computer I have a pretty nice one. Still.

Also note: Definately will work with any Mp3 player I was just saying iPod because that's what I have.

Note the 2nd: Before someone is all applefag I have a Creative Zen too... The iPod is just better :/. I'm not very happy about it either but what can you do.

Use the Zen out of spite? Razz

In that case I can suggest WMPKeys plugin, which is here I think

Google it if it isn't

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.
