I need to copy the recommendations of players across from my messed up server files to my new 'fresh' start of a server and I was wondering which file they're in because it's pretty annoying having a rank no.1 - 10 player that used to be called 'ownage' when they entered and is now called a n00b every time they enter...

I think you want to recover the Ranks too.
Then u must copy the ranks.dat. You can easily edit them with SqliteBrowser.
You mean sumthing like this:
Hi Mr. [NICKNAME] or can I say n00b!
Hmmm [NICKNAME] guess we have to call you an teamplayer... NOT
Or more like this:
[NICKNAME] is ranked at position [number/rank/position (e.g. 1)] of
[players which played at the server (e.g. 100)]
The first one is recommendation based. For this you need the brenbot.dat
The second one is rank based. For this you need the ranks.dat
