Heh, guess what, I get the exact same problem. It completely fucked over my Radar Dome for Renegade Alert, except I can still merge in the files after saving them.
The end result is that I can save, merge, save over old file, merge, save over, merge, over and over again...
It's incredibly annoying. I don't feel like reinstalling Windows and reformatting my computer to fix it, either.

I have a problem where...if i just let it sit open for awhile (say 20 mins idle) all of a sudden *beep* and the error message of would you like to save your work ren-x is closing down....I always say no and load up the last file i had saved.
g-max is very buggy.
They should update their softeware.

YSLMuffins | OMFG!!!!
All this trouble because of a STUPID microsoft update!!!
http://d217859.bo21.bootlegweb.com/forum/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=001346
Since I'm using XP, it's all because of update XP kb823980--I uninstalled it, and BOOM, gmax works properly again!
ACK, I don't remember about Win98, but I think some way to uninstall this update just might do the trick--it solved the problem for me!
Thank God!!!

I have no clue on how to uninstall Windows XP updates just to fix this... I am getting some new hardware, so I suppose I'll be able to work again when I have to reinstall Windows at that point in time.
If you know how to remove that security update, gimme a holler here.

Oh my mistake, from previous screenshots I've seen from you I thought you were running 98, but you obviously must have disabled all of the extra visual stuff!
Anyway, it's in add-remove programs, usually at the very bottom of the list. Removing should entail no problems--I haven't had any so far, even though I got a warning that "removing this update could cause these programs to no longer function" and it goes on to list almost every program I had installed.
