Hi!

I stopped playing Renegade in my laptop and moved on to the desktop. I have a Compaq keyboard. All is fine but when I am piloting my Orca/Apache in-game, one of the arrow keys (usually left or right arrow key) would FAIL.

I will be flying in a straight line and press the left arrow key but there is no response...the Orca would be flying in a straight line.

I have experienced this problem with other flying games as well using other keyboards also and would like to know what is causing this. I have Win XP SP2.

EDIT (added more info):

But if I take my hands off the other keys, it would work. Why does this happen? Why can't the keyboard work with multiple key press inputs? I did not have this problem in the laptop.

This is killing me and my inability to fly Orca/Apache well is making me ashamed of my avatar and siggy. Please help and much thanks.

Does it do this only when you're pressing another button? I mean, can you stop pressing every thing and press left and it'll turn left?

Yes yes! It will work if I take my hands off the other keys (for example the forward arrow)

Sorry I just edited my post to add that info.

Well, you might have to go into your BIOS settings and change how many keys can be held at one time.

Hi,

I looked in BIOS and couldn't find any options reagrding the keyboard.

I Googled it and found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollover_%28key%29

My keyboard is pretty good but I think it undergoes "jamming" as said in the article.

Should I just get a gaming keyboard with n-key (unlimited) rollover or can is there a suitable workaround with my existing keyboard?

I'd go with a gaming keyboard, but that's just me.

A lot of PS/2 keyboards can only handle 3 or so simultaneous keypresses, I know mine can only handle 3 at once, and while it can be annoying you simply have to release something else.

If you use freeaim (v) try binding that to the middle click (pressing scrollwheel down) or one of the side mouse buttons, that frees up your fingers (and keys) for other tasks and is generally easier anyway.

Yes, I should buy a gaming keyboard. As danpaul says, I simply have an inferior keyboard and yes, most keyborad are only 3-key rollover.

I found this article here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollover_%28key%29

Looks like most keyboards are usually 3-key rollover. I have to get myself a new keyboard or find a way to re-configure my keys.

It's my keyboard afterall. It's a 3-key rollover type.

Thinking about getting this...looks pretty good, nice features and also Microsoft!

My Saitek Eclipse keyboard still only allows like 3 buttons to be pressed at one time. It's a gamer keyboard of sorts. I figured the limit was just a function of windows keyboard drivers.

Actually it's to do with the hardware of the keyboard, and how it senses key presses. Keyboards that can detect more than 3 simultaneous key presses are generally more expensive because it requires a more intricate setup to allow that.

If you press more than 3 keys, then a beep sound can be heard...probably telling us that pressing the 4th key is pointless.

Best keyboard ever.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.
