No, a typical excuse by a n00b would be "YOU CHEATED," I rarely see a n00b use that "excuse."
Besides, this debate really isn't valid, since, logically, skill is based on perception, and opinion based in this topic, and you people are arguing over what skill is.
Also, I haven't played Renegade in quite a long time now. I don't really care if I win or lose a game either, it's a game. Games are for fun.

I disagree. A n00b who uses the "YOU CHEATED" is probably new to the game. A n00b who says "it's just a game" is one who has played the game, never improved, did not grasp the concepts, and is now just a headless snake.
|
Wow? You're a idiot. I'm telling you people to get over it. To stop taking Renegade so seriously. Honestly!
Then you started accusing me of sucking at the game, and I don't fucking care? Do you think I'd care if I'd say "It's a game"? No. Stop being a dork, and think about something other than renegade.

Also, 1v1 prove your ability to think and act fast and your ability to exploit Renegade's logic to your advantage. Not to mention the other skills needed like pistol skills.
|
I don't think so.
1 vs 1 AOW matches prove NOTHING.
All it is is a race to see who can destroy an empty base faster. There is no skill involved at all.
There are many different ways a 1v1 AOW match can play out:
1. Both players leave their bases as fast as they can, avoiding one another. They then commence to destroy each other's undefended base. The person who can destroy it faster is victorious.
2. 1 player will await the other's quick rush and counter them, and then destroy the attacker's base while they have barely enough money to fight back (depending on the scenario)
3. Both players await the other's quick rush and the game turns into a mine-your-base fest with no attack action until after about 15-20 min.
4. Lets not forget this one that claims over all. One player clearly gains the advantage of a unit that the defender needs the support of another unit to destroy. (I.E. Flame tank). This one makes 1 vs 1s highly unfair and the "winner" a moron that thinks winning a video game proves that they are Jesus or something. (Also note that this scenario would only happen on given maps. For example if Nod tried to use a Flame tank on City flying, than it would be a whole other story.)

Why is it that Starbuzz has now turned into an incredibly ignorant (and not to mention arrogent) asshat? It's fairly annoying. Well, assuming he's not just pretending to be ignorant and whatnot.
Anyways, 1vs1's DON'T prove anything. Renegade is a game about TEAMPLAY, atleast the AOW part. Now, a match in say, Duel Arena or something (Using normal infantry of course) and setting up proper 1vs1 infantry duels to test who has more "skill" in aiming is a good idea. Same with a vehicle duel and such in a normal map, assuming you don't go killing eachothers base and whatnot. But Renegade is based around teamplay, so saying that a 1vs1 proves everything shows you're an incredibly ignorant cock, and don't deserve to play this game anymore.
Also, saying MWright hasn't played Renegade is another pretty stupid statement to make. He's shown screenshots of him actually being ingame, and while I can't say he's 100% skilled as I've never played him, saying he's the worst player ever is just another ignorant statement.

Easy tiger, you're defeating your own arguments here. First you say 1v1s don't prove anything because Renegade is a team game. Then you say it'd be better if it was just infantry, without tanks or basekill?
Do you see the colossal flaw here? First you say the game is invalid by removing the teamplay aspect, then you say it's MORE valid by removing most of the units and strategies? What the fuck?

I suppose so. It just demonstrates you can win a 1v1, and be able to exploit things that are unpractical in pretty much any other circumstance.

I obviously meant that a 1v1 in an AOW is what doesn't prove everything/anything (Whatever your preferred wording may be). But, an infantry only battle strips away the more "teamplay" kind of thing to it (Although teamplay is always handy), making it ideal for 1v1's. Winning in that can prove you're better with infantry vs infantry then.
Spoony | I've italicised the important part. It's important because it's a straw-man argument. Nobody said it did. You just made it up.

I suppose you're right, but my point remains that it doesn't prove much atall other than that you can win the 1v1 in itself. That's like saying "Haha, I can run over the elderly!". Good for you, it doesn't matter for shit.

I've played more 1v1's in more specific settings than "run to the enemy's base and see who can kill their base faster". Mostly infantry vs infantry. And yes, I win more than half of them, though I'm sure you're referring to 1vs1's in AOW's, so I suppose that's irrelevent.

it matters because it demonstrates you don't need to rely on your teammates, you have pistol/tank/flying skills, quick thinking, the ability to capitalise on an advantage or overturn a disadvantage... but since you've probably never beaten anyone decent in a 1v1, I don't expect you to know these things.

|
I haven't played "A lot" but I have played many.
And define what you mean by "good player."
And, from memory, I have only lost like... 1/5th of them... I could be wrong.
I'm telling you, each 1vs1 game I play all I do is avoid my opponent with a strong vehicle, attack his base, plant C4 on a building, use a tank to blow up another building, and possibly Ion if the credit amount is over 1000 at game start.
The only reason why I win so many of them is because I can blow up an empty base pretty quickly if left alone...
I do remember 1 game that I lost, but it wasn't a 1 vs 1, it was a 1 vs 2 (I was the 1). The game started out as a 1vs1, but we "agreed" not to fight until more people came. After about 5 min the agreement was off and we started attacking each other... but being that it was on City Flying, me being on Nod, I couldn't destroy his base as easily as I would liked. (I refuse to use the Flame Tank). Anyway, the game went on, and I was winning, then someone joined on his team. Still the game went on and I still was winning... I even held back duel APC rushes. (These guys sucked something aweful). Now about 10 min into the game, my apache got stuck. I said in public chat that it got stuck, and he said he would come to destroy it. At that time my mom told me to go put the garbage out... and by the time I came back, no more than 30 seconds later, I was still in my apache and all but the Hand was destroyed.
I lost that game.
& @ star, please explain how "pistol skills" come into play. If you are playing a 1vs1, at least the kind you guys are describing, you at no point should have to use a pistol.
Like I said, and what Cabal said, a 1vs1 wont prove much in any areas that one might find "skillful." Unless you are playing in a death match or possibly an infantry only map.
If you want to prove skill in this teamwork-based game, the only good way to do that is to go up against a team alone!
1vs2, 1vs3, 1vs4....
or proportion it..
2vs6, 4vs16. (Oh man, I have played hundreds upon hundreds of those 4vs games)
