I was wondering if any of you know of a really good tutorial for building comps. Lots of pictures would be nice.

You don't really need anti-static protection worth $6. Why not save $6 and just touch the case of your computer now and then, aslong as you don't move around the room, you're fine. Thumbs Up

If you don't have a wristband, you are not necessarily out of luck. Assuming that your PC is grounded, you can ground yourself by just keeping one hand in contact with the bare metal frame (not a painted or coated surface) of the computer case. Keep the PC power cord plugged in to a (3-prong) grounded outlet and turn off the rocker switch on the back of the power supply. If the power supply does not have a switch on the back, this won't work, however. Never work on a PC with the power on. In that case, you should buy an anti-static band or try another method of grounding.

I have never worried about that while building/working on a pc. The whole concept is pretty dumb really. You have to build up a significant charge to actually do any kind of damage to your off pc. If you think about it you will lose your positive charge just opening the case.

Like the others above, I didn't use any glove, or wrist strap. I just worked on a tiled floor, and touched the case every so often.

I suppose if you want to be extra safe, don't wear socks. Rocked Over

5k for atleast 2x256 GPU? No. It was like $170x2 for 512 (256x2) and its basically impossible (and VERY stupid) to build a new computer, with anything lower than 512 video memory and expect it to go a while without a hardware update..

Just save up for that 5000 while managing on the shitty comp...then when you got enough cash, buy the biggest bad ass up-to-date super computer. That's what I am doing now...75% there (hehe Big Grin
