Hi, I have just installed Linux Ubuntu on a spare PC I have, it has all the drivers and everything nessecary to make it work. Inside, I have a PCI WLAN card, when I try to connect to my wireless network (using Wicd Manager) it stops at retriving the IP address, my router was set by the factory to use a non-static IP, but obviosuly using the home network of 192.168.xxx.xxx. The WEP key I entered in is the proper one, so it's a little confusing as to why it won't connect. Does anyone know why?
Thanks in advance.

1) Check to see if your computer has an IP set by your routers NAT.
2) Check your routers settings, make sure its not blocking the WLAN.
3) Check your computers DNS is the same as the routers IP (usually 192.168.0.1 or something similar).

Come back after you have the results of this.

It has no set IP, as my other computers differ in address, ie 85.xxx.xxx.xxx and some have 86.xxx.xxx.xxx.
Its not blocking the WLAN as my other computers function correctly.
And the DNS is correct, bedisdes, it's set to DHCP so it SHOULD auto-matically give it one.

Colonel
I'm not sure what the issue is but 2 things came to my attention.

1. WEP is not very secure, I'd recommend changing to WPA
2. Are you filtering mac addresses?

TBH, WEP is ok, as I'm living in a *remote* area, and no, I'm not filtering MAC addresses, I wan to point out, that, this pc was originally in the attic of the house, and was connected there via erthnet(as the router is in the attic), it worked perfectly, so it's definetly the wireless, the card is perfect, as it worked on XP (same PC). It just, for some reason, won't assign a IP...
