My iPod Nano of over two years has lost the left side of its sound, and I want a newer, better player for non-work use.

I don't use iTunes, and generally speaking, I don't want anything to do with Apple anymore. The Zune is cool, but I think it's retarded that it doesn't synchronize with WMP 11, but I'll still be willing to consider it.

However, can anyone recommend some other players? I'm looking for something with at least 8 GB, seeing as my collection is about 30 GB (all bought btw Satisfied ). I'm not looking for fancy features, but I want something that has excellent sound when paired with $200 plus headphones. Plus, it's a bonus if the battery is replaceable, and the player is durable.

If I can get some testimonials, that'd be great; and for what it's worth, the music I listen to is mainly hard rock, in the vein of Van Halen, Def Leppard, and hair metal, so I don't need anything that's all that bass heavy, but rather sounds great across the spectrum.

Thanks Smile

If you've got the money, I suggest the Creative Zen Vision:W. My brother has it, and it's a fantastic player. I have the Vision:M myself, but I'd like to own a W sometime in the future. Actually, generally any Creative player would be a great choice, save for the Microphoto (my sister has had two break in the exact same way, but that could be her own fault).

I use a vision:M, very happy, esp as my EULA for the software didn't forbid me from making missles with it (Go check Itune's EULA)

my friend got one of those scandisks, and the wheel broke after about a year. It wasntt the exact same model but it was a video playing scandisk.

My SanDisk Sansa e280 has been used a decent amount, and the wheel works just fine as the first day I got it. I haven't tried the Sansa View, so I can't vouch for them, but I do like the e200 series. It's a little slow to boot-up, but other than that it's a great player. The sound quality is really good if you have high bitrate music on there like I do. Smile

whoa.

IMO, SanDisk is a top name for MP3 players. I have a Sansa c140. I had the option of buying the next model with the built-in rechargeable battery but I hate rechargable things; I prefer only battery powered.

Anyway, the wheel is kinda of like a toy; it got a little loose and makes a slight plastic noise when used but I get awesome sound quality. It's a no-hassle player. Not that I am recommending it, it's old.

But yeah, SanDisk FTW! They got a range of good players.

The SanDisk Sansa View is decent but like I said it has a few problems the format limit for example and the fact I don't think it likes copyrighted music that came from a CD, but either than that I like it Smile

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have to head out later, so I'll be sure to check the players out. However, it seems Microsoft has said that WMP11 doesn't play all too nice with the Sandisk e200 series players, but I'll look anyway. Smile

Set the USB mode to MSC and transfer it like you would a flash drive. Nobody should use WMP to sync music, anyway.

whoa.

Don't buy second hand or a player that isn't packaged, as a common trick-of-the-trade is to format something low capacity like a 1 gig player to an eight gig. This looks all fine until after a while. Corrupt government in a mp3 track.
Ever formatted a low-density floppy to a higher density?

Yeah, I would buy a player that is brand new.

I use WMP to sync, this is mostly because I never bothered checking out other media players.

BestBuy sells an inhouse brand, I believe called the Insignia Pilot, that is pretty cheap and plays mp3s, videos, FM tuner, etc.

I'm bumping this because I never got around to buying a new player. I'm one of those morons who sits on the fence waiting for something newer and better.

Anyhow, I'm to headed to the States for a day to do some shopping this week so I'll pick one up then. Just wondering if there were any more opinions/suggestions.

wow! I am in exaclty the same position! My dad gave me a Sansa c150 for Christmas in 2006! And I still have it and it works great but the battery cover hinge broke and I have a rubberband around it lol...

I would like to have a new mp3 player as well but I am very allergic to expensive stuff and I dislike rechargable stuff....

Where you are coming to States?

I bought that after I returned the worthless View (extremely bug ridden, much more so than Renegade and that's saying a lot), it's generally about $129.

Tbh I think the latest firmware for the View fixes quite a few bugs and is a pretty solid firmware, I would recommend any of the Sansa players they all seem pretty decent(I guess that's not saying much though).

It just breaks the player more like SanDisk always has when they release View firmware.

http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board?board.id=view

Read that for all your View problems, it's never going to work as-advertised. The Fuze destroys it.
