Hello everyone,

I was wondering what does "WHr" stand for when it is used to describe laptop batteries.

Here is a Dell link to batteries:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?c=us&category_id=6590&c s=04&l=en&s=bsd&~ck=anav&p=3

See how it says 85 WHr, 48 WHr, 56 WHr before the battery names? What does it stand for? And does anyone know what it converts to in terms of actual battery power and consumption?

I know WHr is a system or scale to show the power of the batteries. The higher the WHr "rating" then the more powerful and heavier the battery.

But I find no information at all about what WHr stands for anywhere.

EDIT:

Bah, I found out something on the Dell website. Here is an explanation:

But is there anyway to convert the said ampere hours or Watt-hours to like normal time?

Work out how much power your PC consumes per minute and then go from there.

Lets say the laptop works at 10V and consumes 5A, running on a 100WHr battery.
I assume it can supply 100watts for an hour.
P(watts) = I(amps)*V(volts)
10*5 = 50
100/50 = 2 hours

It doesn't matter.

The higher the number, the longer your lap top will run. Those kind of things usually work for me with this kind of stuff.

OK thanks everyone.

@RoShamBo

Yes, your right. It comes down to 2-3 hours and sometimes 4 hours of extra battery life.

Always buy an extra battery pack, and the AC Adapter.
