Question? Hands up. How many people here actually access the 'special features' on their DVD's/Blu-Ray's/HD-DVD's?
Just curious.

i do. And seriously. Everyone goes on record. For example.. michael bay just said that microsoft while appearing as they support HD DVD actually wants both formats to fail, so you will need to stream media instead.
Michael bay has also said that he didnt believe in the HD DVD format and were very unlikely to make the successor to transformers, simply because the first movie was a HD DVD exclusive.
In most sales chart the top selling HD movie is below 5 BLUE RAY movies.
@ Renx. That is not true. Blue ray and HD DVD uses the same laser system (even though the blue ray one is more precise) so they both have the same capabilities to produce dvd players, while "not making blue ray players"
Beta max vs VHS is ancient history. We are in a new age... even 80 year old people uses master cards when they go shopping. This is a completely different time.
Blue ray has the most backing support. Blue Ray.. Is ALREADY outselling HD DVD at 3-1 .. i dont see why that should just randomly change unless something extreme happens. I highly doubt it will.

Sales chat shows blue ray sells 15% more discs weekly than HD-DVD, DVD sales themselves have fallen like a rock, everyone is going next gen or renting movies online, DVD's now sell for 5-10 dollars normal price because of them being "old" now.
But all frost can say is...
UNLEASH THE CHEAPO BLUE RAY BURNERS DANGGIT.
I dont care if they burn at 2x or 1x, I want to burn 50gig discs, I can compile all my dvd's and put them all on one disc.
I'm suprised to see blue ray burners so expensive, and even worse, a 25gig disc cost like 20 dollars, all I want is a cheap disc for 50 cents each like dvd's.
It's gonna be another year before blue rays sell cheap and in mass spindles

The PS3 surpassed the Wii in sales for two weeks, we have yet to get the numbers for this week.
Anyhow, it surpassed it in sales for two simple reasons: new PS3 SKU and Nintendo's sending more DS Lites and Wiis to North America, to do this they have to somewhat starve Japan.
There's no way Sony is coming back from such a poor start on the long term, at best they'll be second in total sales in a year or two.

Actually, emaling a friend in japan, he says wii's are hard to find, but not impossible like the USA, he claims you can find a few here and there, in the USA you cant.
Nintendo is pushing 1.8 million consoels a year while xbox and ps3 are pushing out nearly 10 times more which meets demand and makes them constantly availible.
the DS is also popular in japan again because of digital TV tuner for the GBA slot, they will allow you to have free digital TV signals broadcasted to your DS crystal clear.
But then again, the cell phones in japan all have digital TV tuners built in, so people technically already have TV in their pockets....but some want a screen thats 1 inch bigger for tv!

Wiis are widely available in Canada, that I can say. But I wouldn't think it's the case in Japan (in other, more common-man terms: I think you're making that up, or your friend is). From what I know, it's just as available as it is in the US... Or perhaps he knows something most people don't: a lot of consoles are kept in stores' storage rooms, giving the impression that they're out of stock, while it isn't the case.
1.8 million? Explain how they sold over 13 million so far if their production cap is 1.8 million a year. 10 times more? Please, stop pulling those crap numbers out of your ass.
Need I remind you, DSes are as common as cellphones in Japan, they're a tool of the trade, they're used in classes to teach English.Yes, the tuner (just like any other software for the DS released in Japan) keeps sales strong for a considerable period of time.
Could you be any more biased/misinformed in your next post?

Japan prefering one or the other is moot. Japan can prefer whatver it will, Comrade Dover still prefers a kick to the nuts over a PS3, and a Wii or an Xbox 360 over a kick in the nuts.

One thing that has always boggled my mind is the need for people to watch TV over their cell-phones.
I guess that's a Japanese thing, seeing as they had it out my way about a year or so ago, and it failed.

I disagree with your first part, but agree with the second. I thought it strange that only 1.8 mill was stated where as I know they at least sold 13 mil the last time I checked, which was a while ago.
But the "Availability" you speak of is like this: "The Wii has been out of stock across store shelves since its debut in 06."
If a store, such as gamestop, gets a shipment in one day, it would be sold out by the end of the day.

As long as people ask whether they have it in stock or not, yeah.
Because all you had to do in March here was ask clerks if they had some backstore and the answer would usually be yes, they just wouldn't let people know (i.e.: sign claiming they have Wiis in stock) for whatever reason.
I don't know if it's part of a deal with Nintendo (conspiracy theories here I come!), they fear riots or whatever else reason it might me, but it's strange to say the least.

I'd guess it has a plenty to do with our way of life (public transports in Japan being heavily used as opposed to North America for instance, where we favor our own vehicles to government-owned means of transport).

I mistyped it to say years rather than months, nintendo makes 1.8 million wii's a month instead of 1 million flat.
Also, wii's are widely available if retailers would display them on their shelves, I've been behind meijers stock room doors, they have like 20 wii's a month and only put out 2-3 every week as long as the add advertises them.

Not during the holiday season. Most places have been sold out since mid-November.
|
Yeah, I just got back from the Best Buy I went to 2 months ago, they had 7 back then, now they have none, but have a SHITLOAD of Xbox 360. They had over 5 stacks and one PS3 stack.
Stacks were essentially 4-5ft high cubes.

I went to target yesterday, everyone in the electronics area was checking out, they all had gamecubes, DS's, and psp's in their shoppung carts, I looked in the back and saw they were sold out of everything, no more gamecubes, no more psp, no more DS, and half of akll game acessories were sold, it also looked like the old cheap games were nearly sold out, the ones for 10/20 dollars
