Japan where video games sell like hotcakes in the morning, the wii and xbox 360 had been the victors in sales in recent months, but look no further, sony's 40gig actually boosted their sales

For once, the ps3 is ontop and selling better than the wii, the price drop, small hard drive works, for people who are new to ps gaming, or people that dont want a large HDD because they wont use even 1gig of it.

It makes sense in Japan/Korea/China.
Competitive gaming there is on a par with football in Europe. It's probably the best way for three warrior code nations to get their aggressions out without starting global war to be frank.
They have perfected the concept of internet cafes where high flow internet connections are standard, and high performance machines to run the games are needed for competitive edge.
People have died from not eating and sleeping during gaming sessions in excess of three days.
The wii is perfect for american families. The PS3 is perfect for the aggressive, teenage male culture of gaming that dominates the Japanese market.

I'm thinking of either ripping mine open and painting the outside shell, or paying 15 dollars and skinning the entire ps3 system and saying "OMG ROFL MY>yours"
Btw mine is 40gig, no ps2 playback is ok though, because I dont like using my original game disc unless I have to, I use backups of my games since I leave my discs sitting around and getting dusty, cant play backups on a 40gig or 60gig without some serious warranty breaking haxz0rs. Even if I dont have them sitting around, taking them in and out of a case constantly does make scratches on the disc, Sony...where is my ps3 with multiple disc changers....I hate takign discs in and out.....
Btw my ps2 counts a external USb dvd drive with a DVD in it as a hardrive with DVD files onto it...rocks.....I can play DVD's and avi's without wearing down my ps2 dvd player anymore.

Actually the 360 being old, isnt really popular in japan, in korea it is, but not japan, the ps3 and wii are dominating now, the wii is still hard to find even in japan, so not everyone has one, just like in the US, only like 1/10 people have one while ps3's being too expensive for mommy and daddy to buy for little jimmy....we the grown up peoplez with money snag them.

Well of course the PS3 sales are going up... it is the Holiday season...
I predict that around mid-to-end January sales will drop back down to where they were.
The reason why Wii sales aren't is because everyone already has one... we are talking about Japan, need I remind you.
And 360? See above statement.

First off, the PS3's price has dropped, so of course more units will have sold. What this doesn't say, is whether or not these sales have met Sony's projections, and that's the key.
Second, the largest selling unit is still a Nintendo system.

PS3 sales are only that high because the 40-gig was released.
Next month is the real proving ground for the PS3. If the Wii still outsells it, IMO, then the PS3 is really in trouble.
My prediction is that the Wii will indeed outsell the PS3 next month.

Back then most game systems games tested their betas on PC's before they made the beta for the actual game system itself. If we got our hands on this software, we could be running ps2, gamecube, xbox, and maybe a few new systems too, all on our PC, would be nice, but I guess it's more fun playing certain games on the system it was made for.

Not to bump the thread but im doing it anyways. The ps3 has outsold the wii for the third week in a row. And since there has only been sold 12 million wiis worldwide, its hardly an option to concider that all japanese would have bought one. This is based on the fact that the japanese population was (in the year 2000.) 126,930,000 people. Thats quite a lot more than 12.000.000.

In over all, the wii has only sold 350,000 models world wide as of today.
In over all, the ps3 and xbox have sold more than that already in just a few months.
Lucky me I got my wii before black friday, i asked the kid at the super market to bring me out a wii since I knew he had them hiding in the back, he admit they had tons of wii's in the back stock room, so I asked if I could just buy 1, i bought 1 and was asked to return it since it was a black friday stock, I ripped the box open and said nope, sorry it's opened.

The reason sales are so high, is because people held back, and waited for the new unit. It was pent up demand. Those numbers will fall shortly, and I will bet that the Wii will once again become the dominant seller.
The Wii is selling at a slightly lower level because the price was right, right at the beginning, so those who wanted it could get it.
Besides, Japan's sales are just one half of the picture, and the Japanese tend to harbour (pun intended?) a general distaste for anything North American.
Jump to North America, and the Xbox still reigns king.

@razorblade001. It wasn't specifically aimed towards you, but i thought i saw a couple who said something similar, and it was because of that general opinion.
@nikki6ixx. Sales of the ps3 is rising and they wont fall like that again. They might not domminate the whole of chrismas but next year is the year where some of the playstations "killer titles" comes out. Games such as metal gear solid 4 and killzone 2 will sell consoles (yes everyone says the first was crap and i wasnt fund of it either however it looks like the whole game is different this time around)
In any case going by the percent figures sony has stated that (on black friday where the xbox sold 300.000 and claimed to have outsold the ps3 by 2-1 and the wii sold 350.000) the ps3 has sold up towards 500.000 consoles. The exact figures will be released the 13th december. Until then we only have the percentage increase they mentioned compaired to the amount sold last year.
I also believe that while the wii is "fun" it wont last in the long run. The wii was built for people who dont usually game, these people may buy one or two titles in a year, while the other consoles were specified around the gaming community. That is also why that mario galaxy had such "dissapointing" sales numbers when it came out (atleast in some continents. I havent checked regarding them all.)
I cant predict the future, but i do have my speculations and opinions. In any case... Final Fantasy and Tekken 6 will be win.
(especially tekken 6... damn it looks awesome. People playing it has also stated en masse that its the best figheter ever.)
Oh and one last thing. The Playstation 3 has sold more consoles in its first year than the xbox 360 did. And that is even though, the ps3 has only been out half a year in half of the world. Thats pretty cool.
