So, some background information first: I used to play renegade all the time a couple years ago, and then I stopped around the time I bought a new computer. My Ren CD was in the old comp which i threw out, so I bought The First Decade package today. (Not just for Ren)

I installed Ren. CP1 and Renguard properly, and they work perfectly. The problem I am having occurs when I go to play online, I'll go to Advanced Game Listings and see all the servers, but when I join, I get the message of "Negotiating Port With Server". This Inevitably leads to an "Operation Has Timed Out" message.

Before I'm told to use the search button, let me say that I have, and have tried everything within it. I have disabled my firewall, I have configured my network to allow the correct ports (even though that should not matter with a disabled firewall), and I still get the same results.

What I am asking basically is, what am I missing here? Having tried everything so far on the forum, I now hope that I missed something or that someone has a solution that I have not tried as of yet.

Thanks in advance - Toter

P.S. - If it is of any help my comps' specs are as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200 + 2.21 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX

Also my network is Linksys, and i use a Wireless Adapter to connect.

Your router is probably blocking stuff. Smile

Renguard is a wonderful initiative

Ermmm doesn't really help him if he doesn't know which ports to open + he says he has opened the needed ports.

Do you have it for all servers? Or just for one specific one? usually it's the server blocking some ports, which causes this problem. Most servers don't block any ports, though.

If it's for all servers: maybe try putting your router(s) in DMZ.

Even though I already opened the ports my way, i tried it again with PortForward. I did it all, set up my own static IP, forwarded the needed ports, and i get the exact same problem.

Also Goztow, it is for all servers i've disabled my firewall and i just tried putting my router in DMZ.

Is it the host routers IP that needs ot be in DMZ or mine. I just tried mine and it didn't work. Thanks for all the help so far i'll be back later.

Do you have more than one router? You say

do you mean one modem to connect and one router in between to make it wireless? Or is it one modem/router that connects + puts you on wireless?

If you got two, then u need to forward the traffic from modem to the ip of the wireless router and then from the wireless router to the ip of your pc.

Sorry if I confused you, i was in a hurry. What I meant to say is that I have one modem and a wireless adapter to connect it to my computer. I set the DMZ to my IP, and i forwarded the ports to my IP. If this is not correct, what am i doing wrong exactly?

Thanks again - Toter

If you set the DMZ to your ip (192.168.1.x probably), then there should be no closed ports at all.

If it still doesn't work, then I can't help you unfortunately :-S.

The problem must be in a way related to your router. Only thing they'll tell you is that you'll have to change it, probably. EA doesn't even host the renegade WOL anymore, xwis does. Maybe try contacting them at www.strike-team.net .
