something I'm thinking of doing. Maybe more a topic for the tactics and strategies section, but meh.

Here's my idea... Once a week, I (or a partner in crime *cough* tunaman) would observe a clanmatch or community match between some top players, and I'd take the role of a "commentator", as if it were a sport... giving strategic analysis, saying why the players are doing what they're doing...

might be useful for players to make observations and improve their knowledge of strategy by seeing the "pros" in action, as well as being kinda fun.

that would require copypasting rather than simply one smooth continuous fraps... either that or two separate shoutcasts from the same game.

This would work if we had a RenHawk type program that we could distribute the replay in.

Well, that's not that hard really, that's just a matter whether you are willing to mix it up later...

spectate + fraps + youtube

Spectate + Fraps + VirtualDub&Xvid codec + youtube right? Also, youtube quality sox, perhaps put it on a couple of servers and spread it by torrent? BlackIntel could host the torrent, and perhaps together with noobstories/bhs?

No! Not torrent! I hate them... they take 5 fucking days just to download a small program.

Torrents work properly if people learn to give as well as take.

It is highly unlikely that you are constantly using every single byte of your bandwith, up as well as down.

Yes, As most BitTorrent clients steal your Internet connection while the client is running.

Also, We need 2 other guys who bet on who wins. Wink

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

That's because you're only using illegal torrents.
In this case there would be 2 or 3 servers serving the torrent, + everyone that is social and leaves the torrent shared.
This saves bandwidth for the servers, and makes faster dowlaoding possible.

I agree but replace XviD codec with h.264/x264. Higher quality.

Hmm, true, but also larger size right? Also, I think the Xvid codec is more widely used, so less compatibility issues.

I've seen decent quality stuff on YouTube, I guess it depends upon how you encode it. A "BattleCast" could be interesting.

Torrent isn't way to go... Too many new kids would ask too many easy questions etc, the techical also to setup a dedi tracker for this relay idea (tho a good one), would make up too much of the time. Maybe not youtube, but another video sharing shit, with no file size limit/time limit, would best suit this idea.

Well, I find youtube quality to totally suck most of the time so...
And the torrents is so that you can have reasonably length movies without eating all bandwidth from the serverowner..

1 cw=30min. Thats not lengthy at all. 30min, 30fps, half size, converted into 85% quality .wmv file, then recoded would be 100-150mb max. I suggest even Google video, because of no file size, but it distorts the quality a little too much. Best quality, no file size? www.stage6.com

100-150 MB per CW not much in storage, surely, but in data.
Say that 100 people decide they want the file, that would get 1 server 150*100=15 GB on data. Doable, no doubt, but still, quite a lot if there will be frequent battlecasts.

Another thing, we should use an open format to encode it in I say.
Probably less hassle when you want to edit it etc.

Besides, a CW is not just 1 round, more like 3. That would get to 45 GB on traffic....

Edit:
Got a 50 fps 20 min 840*525 Xvid movie in decent quality here, which is 380 MB.
So in the same format it would be 380/20*30=570MB for 30 minutes.
3 rounds so 570*3=1710 MB
And 100 people downloading it:
100*1710=171000 MB ~ 171 GB
That's no fun Whats That

Ok, I guess I could even record it. I know how to use the !spec stuff, and I know how to get this distribution thing done. People complaining no one seeds is not the way to go. Free online video site, with high quality .avi files (Divx) is. No worrying about bandwidth issues, and ofcourse, no need to explain what BT is, consider this, 50% of us I'd say use BT, BUT 90% of us have a divx codec. This will work Whats That

If Crimson agrees, then why not just make a stream on renegadecommunity.com? I suppose that host has the necessary bandwith to keep it up?

Anyway, as said in your other topic: I really like this idea Smile.
