Swearing debases a language to a common level and just generally reduces the intelligence quotient overall in a conversation.

Perhaps it's because gutteral words that roll several meaning into one show a lack of effort at eloquence and expression or perhaps an actual provocation?

Example of lack of effort: The eskimos have many (100 or so if memory serves) ways to say "snow". It's a very specific way to talk about types of precipitation.
They could just use one slang word to refer to it, and everyone would know what they were talking about sort of. But would they properly convey the delicate beauty of a soft hard sparkly snow good for travel but lousy for tracking as opposed to a wet heavy snow that would make it difficult to travel, but great for tracking?

Example of provocation: The word "Fat". Just a word, but the connotations and social hang ups attached to it cause hurt and disgust when the word is used in certain situations. I sincerely doubt Weight Watchers describes their clients as "Fatties" and uses a better word with more respect such as "obese" or "heavy". It's a way to respect sensitivity which we should be trying to do as a species in our efforts to become more intelligent.

Language is supposed to become MORE eloquent and useful for expression as we become more knowledgeable and our society evolves. Not less, and I think that's where the rejection comes from.

It's lazy, provocative, and knocks social advancement down a peg.

It's part of the reason the British think we're warrior cavemen.

shut up faggot

Don't insult KIRBY-098, because he is right about that question. Of course, you shouldn't use an offensive dictionary near a politician, here in Italy. Bad words made a scandal in Italian politic. Anyone was present to Beppe Grillo's V-Day here?

Bitch - Female dog, I know several people who use this word legitely on a daily basis.

Damn - Condemn, "Damn you!" - (Condemn you!)

Fuck - Was used back in the day of the bow and arrow. I forget who and who, but they would cut off the middle finger of their enemies, flip them off and say "Fuck you, I can still use my bow."

Shit - S.H.I.T., Ship-High-In-Transit. This term was used on transport ships out at sea. I don't remember what for, but it had something to do with cargo and the hull of the ship.

What makes them 'curse words' are the way you use them.

I told you people about shit in the first page.

Fuck Was used back in the day of the bow and arrow. It was the British and the French. The French threatened to cut off the Englishmen's bow fingers aka the fuck you finger. So before a battle, the British would basically flick off the French to show them that they still had their bow fingers. I learned that from my 7th grade history teacher. Very Happy

Either that, or you're enslaved to your own arrogance. Look through the bible closely, it's not that hard to try to follow in it's ways. If everyone did, then the world might be a more caring considerate place.

At it's core yes, at its lessons...no

While I know Jesus isn't the basis for all religions, most religions base their moral core very similarly. Be good to your fellow man, make morally right decisions, contribute to society, and limit yourself to one woman(man if you are a woman). I know the Koran, at it's core is very similar as I read it around 3 years ago.

I am opened to all religions... i don't discriminate guys like the old nazists did during World War 2. Of course, all religions don't share the same ideals, so a little conflict must be expected, but not racism.

curse words are a "forbidden fruit", or something that humanity needs to stay sane. without cuse words, then some people wouldnot have the feeling of power they get from using them. in olden days "foot licker" was a bad enough insult to get a sword run through you. one get a surge of personal power from cussing.

well i had a good explaination for this, but my a.d.d. toasted it, so the concept that i see is pretty much undifinable past what i just put.
