So, I have a few invites left for this "exclusive" site. It's where you can share music, pictures, other files, links, and other messages.

Let me know if you're interested.

I had to hunt through a few pages to find this page.

Quote:

Pownce is a web service that lets you "share stuff with your friends". Translated into non-retard speak, this means "a website where you can go to put notes and files and shit up for other users". What was that? You remember FTP too? Yeah, from nineteen seventy-fucking one? Now it has pastel colors, and it's invite-only.

TBH there are much better options out there (Shared Folders in MSN), file storage sites, I personally prefer to use my server to move files, but it's good of you to offer invites if people are interested.

I lol'd.

Hey! I'll have an invite. Smile

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

I think it's quite useful and pointless at the same time.

I HATE the MSN shared files. It takes 20 minutes to upload to the folder, then the other person has to download it after that. FTP is quicker, but then you have the hassle of letting everybody get your files if they're on a site, or give people access to the FTP if you only want a few specific people to access it.

File sharing sites are fine, too, but too much hassle and not as many things that you can "share".

I find Pownce's file service useful. I don't have FTP space, nor do I want some; it's not as appealing. MSN's shared folders is just as unappealing, and I use Pidgin anyways. Then file storage sites are not a better option, at least free ones--not with Pownce's lack of bloating advertisements.

Also the site offers more than just file service. Examples include: commenting, events, blog-like entries, an about me, and a map of your Web 2.0.

I might use it if I didn't have FTP space.

I like it, Isn't as cluttered as myspace, It's layout is easy to use.

To cheesesoda:

After looking at the site and looking at the features, I have decided to kindly request an invite from you! I think it will add to my internet arsenal since 90% of my life is spent online and with computers.

I have PM'ed my e-mail address.

Once again, thank you very much. I appreciate it very much for you sharing! Big Grin

I just use Cerberus FTP Server...that way you don't have to upload a file somewhere first, they can just go ahead and download the thing.

IE: Every monday night I get Heroes off of Usenet (Commercial free and HD that way) at 1024k down and my antiquated friend that still uses torrents can get the file from me at 300k.

Note: I haven't actually looked at this site but I took it as a site for uploading crap via the way I mentioned.

I'll stick with the tried and true FTP.

For those using it. How does it compare to box.net?

I don't use box.net, but after looking at the site, it looks like box.net is a little more dedicated to file sharing, but pownce is much more of a web 2.0 and social networking site than box is, obviously.

If you like the idea of a sharing folder like MSN, but with one or more people (instead of just one), box.net seems like it'd definitely be a smarter choice. However, if you're looking for another social networking site that lets you share a lot more than most sites do, pownce is definitely something looking into.

Also, 10 more invites.

After looking at this site, I've come to a conclusion:

Kevin Rose does everything.

Which is a good thing I think...
