Does anybody know of any programs that record video from you computer?

I know of FRAPS and Hypercam, but they both slow down my FPS.

Don't know why, then don't on some other peoples machines, but

it does it on mine. Huh

So does anybody got any good programs that does not slow down the FPS?

You could try GameCam i haven't used it too much but I think it is alright > http://www.planetgamecam.com/

p.s. Don't really think it works on vista if you are using vista

No warez, kthxbai.

Camtasia Studio is great! That, and if you're getting FPS droppage in games like Renegade when using FRAPS, you really need a new graphics card/processor/RAM.

Even then its not possible. If your screen is set to 75(which is the max FPS with vsync), and you set fraps to use 30, it will drop 30 and use it to record. Thats how it works.

There you go again talking about shit you don't obviously know. Firstly its not called FPS, its called Refresh rate and secondly, many monitors can go up to 100Hz.

If you're using FRAPS and you have it set to use 30FPS and while you record you don't get the 30FPS constant then your computer needs an upgrade. If it does stay at 30FPS then change the setting in fraps to record at 60FPS but the file-size produced will be doubled.

There's an option in FRAPS that actually lets you scale the video down, to half the resolution, which will half the filesize.

Ok, so Caveman is illiterate? I never said it was the FPS, and my monitor goes up to 75, nor did I know some go up to 100, but I HIGHLY doubt his does, so this "info" is not needed neerd..

Actually, Trooprm02... And Caveman, most monitors can support upto 200Hz refresh rate. That's 200 refreshes per second. However, this isn't supported as it will damage your hardware (monitor, gfx card or both).

Monitors top 'supported' refreshrate is 75Hz, so in a way Troop is right. However, saying this, you should only run your monitor at 60Hz to increase lifetime of your hardware. I've burnt a graphics core by increasing the refresh rate too high and it displays images in a slightly more shade of blue, besides white windows/objects, which makes a nice horizontal black streak to the left of the screen.

Ok, I'm calling bullshit on that.

CRT: Running at 60Hz I can see the flicker. I run mine anywhere between 70 and 75 and they've lasted for years. My graphics card will happily run them at 85 if I wanted, but 75 is enough for me.

You're not going to damage your hardware unless you go to some res the monitor/card can't support.

LCD: I don't see any difference from 60 or above, so I keep it on 60.

So you didn't say "If your screen is set to 75(which is the max FPS with vsync)"? Which is untrue. Just because yours is set to 75 don't make assumptions that his is aswell.

If you knock down the resolution low enough most monitors this includes yours will probably hit 100Hz. (Look so now you can play at 8x6 and still get 100FPS..E-BONER!)

A few years back when I had my 21" CRT which weighed a ton mind you, if I set it to 60Hz I would see it flicker which really did my eyes in. So I changed it to 85Hz @ 1280x1024 on a Geforce Ti 4200 for about 5 years and I did no damage to it whatsoever. The GFX is still being used to this day without any problems. Sounds like your card/monitor just burnt out.

Running fraps on any computer will lag any computer. Whether it is enough for you to notice is a different story. The only way to record a game without causing any slowdown to your game is using your video card's output and recording on a second computer. Really though any decent computer can run fraps and renegade at 40fps and that's sufficient.
