Troop, go argue your point somewhere else. This topic is not the place for it.

Wow, some people think they know something....

1)I have a Socket 939 CPU, if I have to explain why its the best current socket, your already wasting my time.
2)I have a AMD 4000+, standard is 1.4v, and 2.2GHZ, Im running it @ 3GHz right now, on almost stock cooling. Ive jumped the voltage to it to about 1.6-1.7, when I ran it once @ 1.9, it locked up, I loaded up the 2nd bios, unloaded the change, reset to default and I was back. Even I had set the v to 3.0, NOTHING would have happened.

I wasn't exactly sure of this when I first was overclocking my system, but apparently, my motherboard (AMD based ASUS), can detect overvolting, before my PSU even sends anything to my actually CPU.

Intel DOES lock its multiplyer cores, I didn't know it doesnt for Extreme editions (or apperently it doesnt). Don't believe im running @ 3Ghz?

Firstly, that doesn't prove YOUR cpu is running at 3Ghz and secondly they got theres to 2.7Ghz on stock cooling and that was over heating, yet you can go higher. Sure troop.

Edit: I have a AMD 4000+ SanDiego core and my clock speed is 2.4Ghz so I don't know why your default is 2.2Ghz.

Socket AM2 CPUs have different clock speeds than Socket 939s. (i.e. Same PR Ratings but different Clock speed.)

I expect nothing less from these forums, its just the behavior of them. Don't sweat it. I am going to have a new motherboard on the way (a RMA replacement), but first I have to call ASUSTek and ask for a product box... talk about geekdom.

I think two things happened. 1. The processor was damaged. 2. The BIOS on the motherboard was damaged. Regarding #2, I was using a BETA BIOS, but I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.

So I guess for now I just have to sit and wait until I get the new replacement.

At least you'll be all set without any extravagant costs(Hopefully none including shipping). I had pretty bad Motherboard woes once. Abit sent me two lemons of their KN9 SLI series. Second RMA was a charm though Thumbs Up . It was a new board at the time and it was probably just a bad lot.

Yeah, Newegg says anything I have under the 1-year standard warranty gets RMA'd at no cost to me. I just have to pay to ship it to them, but that's no big deal. It is a complete bummer when you RMA something and the replacement you get is DOA as well. On another note, it seems as though I am going to go RMA crazy.. BFG wants me to RMA my 7800GS. I've been talking to them about the video problems it has in Vista and they want me to try a replacement. I guess I'm lucky that its under the Newegg 1-year standard warranty as well.

Ignoring all of the off topic stuff, I noticed you said you got a 0x0000007B BSOD. I got that on my other computer a while back alot. It's due to either a bad boot volume, sometimes a boot virus, a rarely even a bad IDE cable, but the point is it's a software and/or boot sector problem. It's not an indicator of a bad CPU, so your CPU seems fine. That would point to the motherboard, so I'm guessing your new motherboard will fix it, unless you got unlucky and both are bad, but the CPU working in the Dell says otherwise. Keep us posted when you get the new motherboard.

0x0000007B happens when Windows tries to find devices under it's saved set of PnP enumarations and can't. That would happen in this case, due to the chipsets being different. You can migrate a hard disk with XP on it between any Intel chipset, AFAIK (Try it!)

I'm going to try to boot from a CDROM to see if a Windows install will at least work as well as try some different IDE cables. Though, my XP disk may be corrupted due to Vista's new boot loader that seems to interfere with everything.
