I'm thinking of updating my Graphic card soon, as my old card is years old and won't allow me to play games such as Bioshock and MOH:Airborne.

So what card do you use? Smile

I use a cheapo nvidia 7600GS 512MB (2 of them) with SLi configuration which means I got 1gig of graphics, I can run Command and conquer 3 with Ultra high graphics settings, and still get over 150fps, games like half life 2 get 200+fps with full graphics, though it doesnt do directx10, but heck, people care more about smooth graphics than some lighting (maybne not) but alot of dx10 cards are expensive, for 256mb you could pay 150-200 dollars, and for that nvidia 8800 you could range from 200-500 dollars depending on which model/brand you buy it from.

but I am happy with my two 7600's and i got them both onsale really cheap for 100 dollars each (this was back before dx10 cards were released)

Yeah, budget is key. I've been saving for a pretty pair of X1950's. Very Happy

I looked into ATI cards before buying mine, but, I decided, Nvidia may be cheaper in price and have similar function, so I bought these two cards onsale when i went into my local comp usa, they had a special one day sale, so i grabbed them.

Bioshock sucks anyway. I had a 64mb Geforce4, now got Nvidia 7600GT x2 (in SLI), giving me a shitload of problems, gonna sell em and buy a Geforce8 Card (probably 8600GT). Tell Me

P.S:Read up on all the ATI problems, and you'll realize on why to stick with nvidia Tell Me

I think he was talking about ATI.

Also:

There = Place/Position
Their = Possessive (something they own)
They're = They are

Won't apply now that ATi's drivers will be open-source.

That and nVidia's drivers have been failing themselves, lately.

Can I just theorise that ATI's hardware must be superior if the performance is neck and neck yet ATI's drivers are worse?

Viking, statistics and proof that owning ATI cards will give you HIV/AIDs please. Until then, keep your (so oversized it would hit the hard drives in some cases) 8800 to yourself, thank you.

I have an X1600 128mb and it does me well, for now. Although saying that, it is a notebook graphics card and built into the logic board (so i can't upgrade it Sad).

It plays source games pretty good, even with low RAM but it's starting to get to its limit with SL...

If your using a laptop, might i reccomend the ASUSTEK XG station, it replaces your laptops crappy graphics card and gives you super good PC like graphics, it plugs into the side of the laptop like any wireless card or expansion card would for notebooks, then the cable connects to a box which contains a PCI express slot, you can install any graphics card you want (comes with nvidia 7950gt if am correct)

I've seen this thing demoed on new laptops trying to play games at full graphics, they did a comparison where they had the same laptops, one without the XG station and one with, the one with showed good results.

VERY interesting, although, would it work on a MacBook Pro?

And, how much is it/when is it released?

Ah nice, might look into it.

Don't really need a top of the range card or something that gives me 1000s fps.. just a nice well built card that will last for a long time without burning out, which can support any upcoming UE3 game and crysis. Smile
