Meh I tried 10.2 it looks nice, but it couldnt recognize my graphics card or wlan card, it kept displaying everything at 16bit color when it can use 32 bit color, and it was at the resolution of 800x600 when i usually have it at 1280x800, I looked for drivers from nvidia, but their linux driver for my card model kept saying it couldnt find a compatible card, yet i use the same driver but for windows in XP.....wlan was the mager part though, I had to get everything from another PC and tranfer with a USB thumb drive, nothing worked, so i decided meh I'll stick with windows XP/vista

My uncle uses a old toshiba tecra and it's hardware was all recognized by suse 10.2, but my newer HP laptop, only touchpad and sound controls were recognized...

What wlan card you running. Because if it's not 802.11b then many linux distro's don't like it.

It's a G card, but I have read many people using the same laptop as me (same model number and hardware) have a good time installing crap and drivers, the main one is wlan which kills people over, then theres graphics driver which is a bit easier, then everything else...meh...

Viva la Resistance!
That's the problem with Linux, things don't work the right way straight away, and new users don't know how to make them right. Razz

For instance, I daresay your bitdepth and resolution problems were simply because the wrong defaults were set in the xorg.conf file. I know this because my first experience with Ubuntu had the same problem, and I had to search the internet for a good while to find out the solution.

But don't give up! I'm sure there will always be people here to help if something doesn't work right. Big Ups

Interesting note: I'm posting from a Hackintosh, and that setup fine. Maybe you should try MacOS too!

I'm running in my newly found debian box. It's pretty sweet! I'm coming off of a knoppix build tho.. so it's a little different to me.
