My friend Joshua had a similar experience. (Pre-Iraq, Conflict free military) They told him he was going to be working with computers in a mobile command station somewhere around Washington state.

He told me he saw a computer once while he was walking the wire at a military base in Italy.

Anyone joining the Military is also a soldier, first and foremost. They will be called upon to learn basic weapons skills and may be expected to use them.

Computers users are no exception.

So you wouldn't mind a bald faced lie? After you sign the papers they don't even pretend to keep their word.

I thought this was really neat... I just got a call from one of our local Navy recruiters today, and he offered me a job. The job: Programming for Top Secret Advanced Missle Systems. So, my first thought was "eh?". Apparently I'm in the top 1% of students in my area for this, and was highly recommended by the Tech Department in my school district.

So, I thought I'd share the news because I think its really neat. And I'm pretty serious about it, so I invited the recruiter over tomorrow at 4:30 to talk about it!

So let me get this straight... you get a job offering from the AMERICAN navy, and your first thought was to to act like a Canadian?

Everyone going into the military goes through basic training, and in most branches its 9 weeks long; no matter what job you're signing up for.

Carve your name on it!

Good luck!

Rofl, then when they launch that missle, the remains will be there and the people who survived will say "DAVE S. ANERSON, I WILL KILL YOU ONE DAY!"

At first my father and I joked about it a bit...
"Oops! Sir, that missile just hit one of our own ships."
"Somehow it was given the wrong coordinate, sir."
"Sir, I think its your horrible compiler..."

A clip taken from family guy:

"Well done private. I like the "happy new year" screen"

"actually sir, we didnt make that, all our missles randomly launched themselves and just made the text happy new year"
"......Oh!"

He was there for 3 years and even today he hasn't been to Washington state. I hope something like that doesn't happen to you but be warned.

(3 years was his entire enlistment)

Well, he came, and he left. Luckily it was a recruiter I already know and he's pretty trustworthy too. It turns out my job would be more of a hardware aspect being able to troubleshoot and repair the missile systems. Not my cup of tea really. I told him I'll definitely think about it though.
