Hey, I'm posting this problem for a friend of mine who doesn't feel like registering here and asking himself. 
Anyways, his ping has suddenly skyrocketed for no reason at all while playing Renegade. (We're talking about 2k ping on average). It happens in every server, and it ONLY happens for Renegade. Every other game is fine. He never had this problem before today, and he hasn't installed/updated/done anything to Renegade recently, so he has no idea what the problem could be. He has DSL, I believe, and his ping used to always be below 200 on average.
Help would be appreciated.

Does the high ping happen regardless of game server?
If it does happen all of the time and only with renegade Im thinking it is an ISP traffic shaping thing on the port in use.
Get him to ping a game server (using the game port) - use this utility (a 'ping' of sorts that uses TCP). Then get him to ping say the game server's website (if they have one).
Be interesting to see the results.

Yeah, it happens regardless of what server it is. I'll try to get him to do the ping..thing. I'm not really an expert with computers and such, but I'll try to report exactly what happens.
